When the recessed lights are on there aren't shadows, but yes under cabinet lights are great.

I would go with 4K and put in more cans in the kitchen. I'm not a fan of the chandelier in the kitchen. I would rather just have cans.

Ok, I'm here for real lighting talk.

1. has an electrician been consulted about recessed lighting? I see a vent in your ceiling that may cause some issues with can placement. And maybe the reason the recessed that are existing are in an odd spot.

2. eliminate the lighting above the cabinets, it does nothing for the space. the flickering issue is either a bad connection or a "cheap" LED that is failing.

3. I would not put pendants here, as they will pretty much be blocking the site lines, and hard to place to look good at all angles.

4. the vent by the nook area may also cause placement issues depending on which way the ductwork is traveling.

5. undercab lighting.

An electrician was used to relocate an outlet that was in the bar, and eliminated another one. It was discussed that we were planning to replace fixtures, but we have not yet discussed any specific plan, but I wasn't sure yet what it was I wanted to do.

You need to have him or someone out to discuss before you get your heart set on any one thing/plan.

When you went from fluorescent to LED, did you replace the fixtures or did you put LED tube lamps into existing fixtures? There could be an incompatibility in the latter case. LEDs can also flicker when paired with an incompatible dimmer switch.

I think a flush-mount, or just recessed cans, would look better in the kitchen proper than the bowl chandelier there now.

Yes, anything would look better than the 20 y.o. fixture that is there now, lol. Used compatible T8/T12 tubes in the existing fixtures, no dimmer. It's just the one set with an issue, and I haven't tried to swap the bulbs out, yet. Are flush mounts used for taller ceilings?

Recessed is the best option, and also for resale down the road. the lights above the cabinets just draw your attention up, and you want people to look at the decor not the ceiling.

putting in LED wafer lights will be easy and not that disruptive. they look just like recessed but with less hassle.

Okay, so FINALLY had an electrician in! We are good to go with whatever we want to do! No issues with attic or rafters, vents, etc.! Yay!!

So now, PLEASE, help me with a plan! Here's what we have so far:

1. 7 under cabinet strips will be installed & wired in to switches on each wall (one switch per wall added.

2. Need to decide to convert above cabinet light fixtures to actual LED or just eliminate altogether.

3. Decide between replacing the existing center kitchen fixture or eliminate & replace with wafers. Electrician suggested waiting to decide on above cabinet lights and see how much light would put off if they are kept and set to 3500-4000K - then decide how many wafers might be needed if not using another fixture. (Semi-flush? Or flush? Would that look odd on an 11ft ceiling?)

4. Decide between flanking pendants over sink or counter end. Or just keep cans where they are - or move them (where?) and change to wafers.

5. Replace breakfast area fixture and move approx 10-12" toward windows and lowered approx to 36" over small oval table.

Under cabinet lights starting in 2 weeks! So I need to make decisions on the others pretty quickly if I want to try to bundle everything around that. Backsplash going up end of December.

2, you will not need the extra light

3 replace it with can lighting.. DO NOT USE 4K. stick to 3500, no center light.

4. You do not need hanging lights here, let the chandelier over the breakfast table be the pretty thing. BUT..if you do I would hang one over the bar part and one over the sink.

MAKE SURE THE UNDER CAB LIGHTS AND RECESSED LIGHTS ARE THE SAME COLOR TEMP, AND PUT DIMMERS ON E V E R Y T H I N G. oh and if you do pendants put them on their own switch.

Under cabinet lighting is in & looks great! The above cabinet fixtures/ballasts were converted to LED and new tubes put in. They put in the wrong Kelvin for those lamps, so will correct that this week. The under cabinet lights are adjustable. Overall, great improvement for a not very expensive investment & only took about 2.5 hours for the install!

Have yet to decide on the fixtures!
