How deep do I transplant my Kale seedlings?

Comments (2)I chickened out and brought a flat of broccoli, cauliflower, and 3 kinds of basil & thyme inside....trying my hand at winter sowing. I had tiny seedlings just above the dirt the other day...I brought them inside and have created an entire flat of lil monsters! the broccoli grew 1 1/2 inches already! The cauliflower grew an inch and the remaining herbs have all "popped". They may have just waited around and continued growing when it warmed up again in I had left them outside, but no! I had to feel sorry for them....now they're spoiled! Warm and cozy inside growing on the kitchen table in front of huge windows. I really need a greenhouse! :)...See MoreNeed help with kale seedlings!
Comments (3)It is a common problem resulting from not enough light and too much heat. You can correct for it by transplanting them deeply - you bury all that bare stem - when you pot up. Raising the light is not the solution and only makes it worse. The solution is a small fan - standard recommendation you'll see in the many discussions here about this problem. You have to reduce the ambient air temp around them. So transplant them again - deep - and drop the light back where it belongs and set up some way to move and cool the air around them. For future reference you might want to do some reading here too about the problems with those peat pots. Be sure to strip it all off when planting them in the garden. Comments (0)Hi Japanese Maple Lovers... Below are 4 Pictures of a Selection of Japanese Maple Seedlings that are coming up quite prolifically. Houzi & Gardengal have already offered some advice earlier. I know these Seedlings are nor quite ready to transplant into individual pots yet. Gardengal mentioned a 5 ~ 1 ~1 Potting mix of BARK FINDINGS ~ PEAT ~ PERLITE I was also advised to wait until the Seedlings have at least 2 sets of Leaves before repotting.. Do I need to protect these Seedlings with Slug Pellets as they do look vulnerable to an attack. They are mostly raised up on Garden benches of say 18"+ High.. The Success ratio of these seeds has been Fantastic..Approximately 80+ have Germinated so far from 250+ Any additional advice/Guidelines to add to the above Information would be appreciated as always. Happy Gardening..Stephen Cheshire....See Morevgkg Z-7 Va
