What's the best way to seal a raw drywall edge?

Decorating Mama

We had our skylights replaced, and since the manufacturer changed the size slightly, we're left with a bit of a repair job inside. There is some old caulk left, and a raw edge of drywall at the top. Removing the caulk is easy. We can put a little trim piece at the edge and paint it, or we might even be able to get away with no trim piece (just painting) and it will probably look ok. But what do we do about the raw drywall edge? You won't be able to see it from the room, but I'm concerned about leaving a raw edge. Any ideas? TIA.
