Couch too tall for standard side tables - Can I use a console table?
My couch arms are 31-32" high and 36" deep. Standard end/side tables are too short and not functional. Can I use a small console table with a drawer and shelf next to the arm? Any other ideas out there??

Comments (9)Lolaren - Your room is very pretty. I don't see any lamps. I would put two lamps on your table and remove the benches. I think the white benches are too stark against all the dark colors. Maybe have them refinished in a complimenting color pulled from your room. I would also just put 1 small stack of books and maybe a pretty bowl, platter, candle holder(s) I guess I'm suggesting decorative accessories for on your table. I'm thinking the height you have is what I need for mine. I can't put risers on the bottom as the legs aren't perfectly straight. Also, I don't mind getting a new table. My other pieces are washed w/goldish trim and also some mirrored pieces. My current table is a fruitwood color so it doesn't go well now. Comments (13)I don't think there's too much glass (I have a few glass furniture pieces in my living room -- I like the airy look. But last winter, I had to cover the glass Parsons-style dining table because it became just too cold.) Aside from that, tho: Maybe it was the angle at which your photo was taken, but it looks like that's a low sofa. Have you measured the height of the sofa table compared to that? That's one thing I'd be concerned about -- it could make that sofa table unworkable. Also, as you sit on the sofa and turn your head toward the end tables, do you see the bulbs shining brightly in your face? I'd be wary of that, even tho I really like the end tables -- everything might just be too high for that sofa. I also agree that the mirror doesn't do anything for the space because it doesn't reflect anything that you will want to see all the time. Comments (5)Until you find a longer one or two short ones, how about putting two small storage ottomans (one on each side of the table), or two small chairs, or even two garden stools. Comments (18)Thank you Patricia. Those chairs were actually placeholder from another room to see what scale works. I’m on the hunt for a rolled arm chair that is smaller scale (but not puny) in a navy color. The chairs here are actually a challenge since you walk from entry way right into them, so I don’t want kid sized but I also can’t swing the standard 37”-40” depth. 2 years agoHere is my couch if that helps, I don't have a lot of room on either side but it's do-able. We have that awkward layout with corner fireplace/tv above and only two walls (one with windows), the rest is open. We have a reclining loveseat to the side of this that faces the window. Walkway into is the angled rug.

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoThis side of couch: Consider how a lamp would help and you won’t be limited to a tall/narrow table (which won’t look good) or with something too bulky that will be in the way. See below how ”lower” can work when balanced with a tall lamp.
With your couch’s style, you need to be considering visual weight and balance. It would really help to see both sides from farther back.Other side of couch: Here is a solid wood table that is substantial, really lovely and 30” high, so could work (and almost 50% off).
