Define "bedroom"

Is there a rule or even just a convention in your market about what constitutes a bedroom?

I always understood that a bedroom had to have a door that can be closed, a window, and a closet. It also has to be a minimum size.

I am finding that is not true in other markets. In old converted buildings I have seen BR without closets or even without windows. The other day, we looked at a very interesting carriage house. The second floor had three bedrooms but the ceiling had weird angles and one of the bedroom walls in each of the bedrooms was open from about 8' up. In essence, you could argue they were cubicles not bedrooms!

Weird.
