Choosing floors to an open space area including kitchen
Comments (13)There are a number of money pit traps you are likely to fall into because "you don't know, what you don't know". A designer can help you avoid those mistakes and that pays for a designer fast. Read any of the posts here on Houzz with similar issues and you will see that "they couldn't "afford" a designer," but they could afford to spend thousands on redoing a floor or some such thing. I can't tell from the photos but your floors seem to be in good shape. You cabinets seem to be in good shape, but getting into redoing all that flooring is 10-15K adventure not to mention having other problems along the way that can cause other mis-steps. Maybe a runner on your wood flooring in a light color would help tone that red down and runner on the stairs, could help change things up without breaking the bank. The wasted space in the area where you have that little seating area in the kitchen would bother me the most of all your issues. Perhaps adding more functional kitchen space in that area would give you a new look also with a huge expense? Think of alternatives to flooring changes and see where that leads you. Good luck....See MorePlease help me choose my kitchen flooring.
Comments (16)So, an update: Our highly competent and trustworthy handyman strongly recommended, given cost and durability considerations, that we go with laminate instead of porcelain tile. (The porcelain would cost about 4 times more to install, and budget is definitely a consideration for us.) We found one that is a stone look rather than a woodgrain look. It's not Tarsus Gray, but it's pretty and will do quite nicely, methinks -- a definite improvement from the current flooring. Below left is the picture of what we're going with; the second picture is the Tarsus Gray for comparison; the third is the current flooring....See MoreHelp me choose kitchen floor tiles
Comments (4)I like Linz's suggestion. A lighter gray with lots of variation. Even the showroom floor is almost there! But style matters a lot here. That hex tile is sort of rustic or old-timey and could look weird in a slick modern space....See MoreHelp choosing kitchen floor—we’re desperate!
Comments (6)I recently purchased a new white stone tile and installed in both of my bathrooms and really like how it's come out. Kinda similar to photo inspiration #2, there's another set of colors in that collection I linked that that is similar to inspiration #3 you linked - "grey stone" and "light stone grey"....See Morelittlebug zone 5 Missouri
