Decorating Odd Staircase Wall

I cannot for the life of me decide how to decorate this wall going up the staircase in my new home. I don’t want it to look too cluttered, I’m trying to go for a timeless traditional style. Any ideas?

You needn't fill every inch of it. Is that a knee wall dying into the larger wall? Take some better pics, and do a couple from upstairs. Width and height dimensions would help, in a quick ketch. Upload all. in a comment box...this thread

We bought a 1930s house have opened up most of main floor incl small kitchen, diningroom and living room. Now its an odd shape to decorate. Contractors start this wk to complete painting, floors, trim and lighting. The dining room is much bigger than living room. I would like to add a fireplace/mantel/tv wall/area but not sure where or how to decorate to utilize space. Here are pics. Sorry i dont have measurements kitchen opened up into dining room.small breakfast nook/island to go onthat half wall large dining room area that opens into a smaller living roomthis was two rooms opened up into oneon right side of that window is the front porch doornew stairs built with under stair storage behind that door. Small powder room in right corner. Also little areabehind the couch on right wall i do have option to close up this window the outside of the window is a closed in front porch. If you like red, there are gentler, browner reds / rusts/ spice colors that would blend better with the wood and floor. Another red over red wouldnt be that hard to do. As far as window goes (is there just the one?) a woven woodsy type of shade to relate to the wood elements or curtains with simple pat]tern incorporating reds/browns/whites.

Not a Pro. I would make it a gallery wall. Find some of your favorite pics and get them developed in black and white. Make your pictures all different sizes and framed in different or the same frames.

HI -- I do not like houses that have these large open useless spaces . This is always a problem for noise and how to paint them and how to decorate . You would have to hire painters and the use of scaffolding and the high cost to do so and to maintain. That wasted square footage could be better used in the upstairs living areas . You could have some applied moldings in a square pattern or wallpaper for interest , or quilted fabric panels but some does not help with the sound . Tapestries or rugs or soft wall hangings helps a bit... as for a large painting that can be home made or the affect done with a wallpaper mural or a hired Artist . Maybe in the future consider having some of the area built in for useable square footage . That will add better value to the house .

I think there's something grand about it as it is. Plant has helpful height, a 'natural accent' where it is. A fab planter pot would be great, and what about a dress-up wood base too. [I might remove little table near the plant.]

Any idea about a rug - could anchor staircase with many little visuals.

I agree - less is more. Keep the eyes on the main level - add a nice foyer rug, and focus first on decorating the foyer area. Consider a big, roundish chandelier to bring depth to the area.

How many angles/turns are in the staircase? it has a tower ascending vibe, and to me, unique enough to fill the stage.
