Lovely kitchen in the making but that light fixture for over the table is just too too much. Will you need pendants over the island?

Are your floors stained on-site hardwood or did they come pre-finished? I’m asking because I really like how your kitchen has turned out - and I’m thinking about being a copycat (as my mom used to tell me - “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery“ - every time my younger sister would “copy” me - ex. I cut 6” off my hair - 4 days later my sister got the same exact haircut). I might have missed it - but what did you go with for your backsplash? Oh - and I know that you already had your countertops but . . . Are they quartz or marble? Everything really looks nice. I may go a with a little “moodier” blue on my island - but I really like yours too. i just looked back through your photos - the blue island has so many looks depending upon light!

IMO if apinted is what you want go MDF for all painted cabinets with a factory finish for sure . All painted surfaces can chip but the factory baked one less often. Painted wood has no advantage IMO and MDF just works better since it does not expand and contract so no issue with seeing the tiny spaces in a painted wood form that movement.

@Helen Spiel The stiles and rails on Lowes Shaker-style Kraftmaid cabinets (name is Deveron) are 2-3/16 inch wide. There are a few "white oak" wood options with a variety of stains, though I am not familiar with them since I am purchasing white cabinets. Kraftmaid has a new wood stain called Shortbread which is light and clean looking. 30% off right now, although that special runs every other week. I prefer Lowes to Home Depot because I cannot abide by the strong chemical smells characteristic of HD stores, and Lowes employees seem to be at a higher caliber than HD kitchen folks. In 2004 we renovated a kitchen using Kraftmaid cabinets. We repainted those cabinets white in 2022 and sold the house in a week. There were never any structural issues with the cabinets. I will be ordering my white shaker cabinets from Lowes tomorrow. You might hire a designer as well or your GC might have one. It's up to you. You have more options with a cabinet maker, for sure.
