What 'Non-Girl' or 'Non-Guy' Lesson were you taught?
Comments (16)Awww! These stories are so inspirational! Me-- nothing. I think I could learn how to change a tire, but the one time I tried (on a freezing winter night) I could not get the lug nuts off . . .man at the gas station wouldn't come out in the cold, so I had to call my then boyfriend to help. (He was very muscular, but even he struggled, so . . .) I used to play the harp, but I could never get it up/down stairs myself. That's one of the reasons I stopped playing professionally, because I hated being dependent on others for help. My teacher said it would be physically impossible for me to do because of my height. (She could and she was in her 60s-- but she was much taller.) I don't know if that is true. The other day I DID learn how to rewire a lamp. But mostly DH handles things. He is in a techie professionlly, and learned how to do many home repair type things from his dad and his own experimentation. Now that we have little time, I feel like I missed the boat to learn these things since he can do them so much faster and better. BUT, then there is my mom . . .widowed when I was 13, so she had to learn a lot fast, on her own. That was no good, either! My dad did a lot, from home repair to laundry to dishes, even little things like filling her tank with gas. (My mom was a big career person.)...See MoreSwag light
Comments (4)Hi, thanks for answering. The globe is white milkglass (hobnail), Around middle measurement is nearly 26" (of course I am measuring over little hobnail bumps). Then I measured top to bottom 9 1/2" but that is not center to center because you have antique brass pointed bottom plate decoration (hole in bottom of globe where this screws into) and around the top the decorated part where your elec. comes down from. ????confused???? There is an antique mall I think near here, I should try there. Any more solutions or ideas would be more than welcomed. The bare bulb at one end of swag looks ridiculous!...See MoreLooking for replacement windows
Comments (19)I am just relaying what they are saying but to make it clear - I understand $1500.00 is the maximum amount the government will credit back and that it's on the cost of the windows and nothing to do with installation, as I said from the quotes I'm getting my window cost times .30 is going to be under that. I did misunderstand the sales person and misrepresent what I was told. So Saturday I visited the company and asked both the Sales person and his boss what they are exactly trying to say about this credit. From what I gathered they are saying you can qualify for an insulation credit with their window install. I decided to google about this part and here is what I found - this is site that I arrived at from the AWDI site http://www.awdi.com/. Again I am only relaying what I am being told and in no way stating this is true. Here is the link about the insulation rebate. Comments (13)Jeana - You're right: something edgier appeals to me, but I don't want to ruin the old style of the house. And my husband is a bit more conservative than I when it comes to how much overt decoration he can tolerate. So I'm pretty sure he will veto the HD pendant. I'll post some pix of the various rooms, but they are not very good - just quick snaps from when he had the home inspection. Previous owners' furniture and artwork. We now have our own furnishings but it's not too put-together, so I haven't bothered with new photos. But this will give you the general look of the trim and shutters. office/sewing room to be daughter's bedroom master bedroom - may eventually become a sitting room guest room - will eventually be expanded and turned into master BR Here's another pendant I like (NOT RH, but similar and a lot cheaper because it's on craigslist right now).It can be shortened to use just a 6" rod so it would install more like a semi-flushmount fixture that just hangs down more than normal. Maybe I'm just hopelessly drawn to shiny objects! Perhaps I could start with one of this style in my office, which others rarely have to even see :) I'm definitely open to suggestions, guys. If I were to go more traditional, do you think the schoolhouse style (flushmount) would look good, or should I go for something a little less stolid and more victorian in style?...See MoreRL Relocation LLC
