Not a corner pantry. Maybe a regular closet pantry. Might still be weird depending on what’s going on with the rest of that cased opening. If you post a floor plan, people might have more ideas.

@emilyam819 Here is a sketchup of it. The red circle is where I was proposing putting the pantry. I want the kitchen to feel as open as possible, so that was part of my thought process. The blue dashed line is where I am blowing out an existing wall. The outlined green circle will be the footprint of the new kitchen.

Yes, what is the proposed kitchen layout, though? And I assume you have to keep the header in the cased opening by pantry closet? I’m afraid it’ll look like a pantry/closet in another room.

@emilyam819 I'm not sure on the layout yet. Something like this...where the green would be the cabinets/island, red the fridge/oven/stove, and blue is an existing window. BTW - the cabinets will go out further. This is my first design, so I'm trying to figure out the principles of a kitchen design.

And, yes, the header would have to stay.

Yes that would be weird, unless that other room turns into a mudroom. I would keep the pantry in the kitchen.

Yeah it sounds like pantry should be in the kitchen.

IMO corner pantries are horrible and awaste of space but I also think a pantry outside the kitchen work area is also a poor idea. An actual to scale floor plan ids what we need so the kitchen floor plan to scale showing all windows and doorways and where those doorways lead is essential for any help here. Use graph paper it makes doing scaled drawings a bit easier to do . #D pics are never helpful at the beginning of a design IMHO.

I wouldn't do a corner pantry - the space is hard to use, and they take up more space than you gain for pantry items.

Your first step is determining what you want the room to be - a sitting room or a dining area. That will help to determine how a pantry might fit in.

Will the whole space circled in green be your kitchen? Looks like lots of space for a decent pantry in the actual kitchen area. Please post dimensions and more info so we can help.

I am in the middle of a reno and I moved my pantry as part of the reno. I took part of my laundry room and created a new pantry that is still part of and accessible in the kitchen. I don't think you really want a pantry that isn't in the kitchen.

Pantries are often a side room off the kitchen, so I dont understand that objection. What if you make twin pantries on either side of the opening to the other room? embed them as part of the opening.

@auntthelma That was somewhat of my thought. The pantry would not feel like it was out of the room. By working it into the entry wall, it would feel as if it was part of the kitchen. Maybe a corner option isn't the best...maybe a rectangular option.
