Pros/cons of built in soap dispenser?
Comments (31)didn't have one installed on granite installation. wished i had. I am disabled, (wheelchair, arthritis, fatigue issues), so going under the sink for the bottle is more work for me, and with a modern kitchen design, don't want clutter of bottle on counter. Did have moen auto detection (senses when you put your hands in front of it. One can also disable feature, so win win). Godsend. Aides like it too. Figure is next buyer doesn't like it, they can get their own. Will be installing soap dispensers in kitchen and bathrooms myself soon, though I doo like the bathroom auto dispenser , yet it takes up space....See MoreBuilt-in soap dispensers
Comments (17)I've said it many times. I adore my soap dispensers. (Well, only one is currently hooked up as I'm waiting for my no-show electrician to show up and finish his 30 mins of work so I can have my final inspection so then my plumber can trade out my air gap at the main sink for my soap dispenser.) I currently use the dispenser at my prep sink with hand soap. I use one of those dish soap/sponge wands for the few things I hand wash. If I didn't use the wand, I would search out a dish liquid that was gentle enough for my hands that dry out quickly in the winter so one liquid could meet both needs. I, too, have a neverMT. (Again, I have two but still waiting for my sparky to yada yada.) As much as I used to fill my dispenser, the neverMT is a nice timesaver. We put a dispenser in my old kitchen and used it for more than 10 years without issue. It was from HD, and I think it was a Delta. The ones I have now are Elkay. Very sturdy and well-built. Nine months of heavy use and still going strong. As to Lily's 'cons', I don't have any problem wiping quickly around my soap dispenser. I had much more trouble in our temporary reno house with the d@mn freestanding hand soap bottle. When cleaning, you have to lift the thing up, wipe the counter, and wipe down the sides and bottom of the bottle. Over and over. Plus, using the bottle gets more water and soap on the counter than a built-in. Inevitably, the bottle slipped around the counter. I wash my hands a few dozen times every day in the kitchen as a SAHM who cooks every meal from scratch. The place and method from which my hand soap comes is a silly yet big deal to me. I still don't understand the argument that says a working kitchen has to look cluttered. Veggies, dehydrator trays, canning jars, and bread pans on the counter doesn't mean you have to leave other clutter out also....See MoreDo you like having a built in soap dispenser?
Comments (46)I had the same dilemma, and I asked about it in the thread below. I did not get one. I keep the dish soap under the sink. I was all about ease of cleaning, and I didn't want another thing to clean around. That said, I have friends who have three dispensers next to the sink in their beautiful, functional kitchen: one for dish soap, one for hand soap, and one for hand lotion. They and I represent the two ends of the soap dispenser spectrum. Soap Dispensers Redux...See MoreBuilt-in Soap Dispenser for Bathroom
Comments (3)I think several people on this forum have used in counter soap dispensers. You can also purchase the commercial sensor based units. My complaints about the commercial units is that the spout is not very long and I feel like I am always hitting the back of the unit when I reach under them. I personally have a combination of wall mounted units, simple human sensor based units and a regular soap dispenser that sits on the counter. I think another reason these are not popular in bathrooms is the lack of styling around the sensor models and limited styles for the in counter models. Also, pedestal sinks are not always compatible with drilling multiple holes. Good luck!...See MoreJulie R.
