Does this Autumn Blaze Maple need to be taken down?

I'm concerned that this Autumn Blaze Maple is not structurally sound at the base of its trunk. I've read about sunscald, but that seems to occur on the southwest side of the trunk. This is centered on the opposite/northeast side of the trunk.

I'm wondering if I should go ahead and have it taken down before it causes trouble. My fear is that, even if it's able to heal itself, it might still have a rotten section inside the trunk that will cause it to be blown over onto the house or other structure later. It seems healthy otherwise, as if it's in good health from about four feet from the ground and above, with healthy branches and nice leaves.

It's about ten years old and has never been pruned, so it's very tall and seems top heavy, which deepens my concern.

I'd appreciate any insights and opinions.
