hardwoods on ceiling of front entry

Does anyone know if I can put my “extra” hardwood flooring in the ceiling of my front porch? I have knotty pine there now and it’s driving me nuts with all of darn spider eggs. I live in the NW.

And depending upon where you are, if it snows and that rug collects moisture...your wood underneath is history. If you're planning to tile the front entry, depending upon your layout of home, either tile the entry only...or if the front door leads into a large room, tile wide enough to pass the door, at a 90 degree angle, open by 1'-2'. If you plan to tile the 1/2 bath, run the tile into it. If not, tile simply around the front door.

IMO this room should be used as a large foyer. Years ago, foyers often had a fireplace for guests arriving to warm up. The room could really be charming. I think some wood wardrobes could be placed in the corner to store coats and shoes. Where you currently have the chairs, I would set that up as a cabinet for storage with either art or a mirror above it and add a patterned area rug to allow for different weather conditions as guests enter. It would be the first thing you see when you walk into the room.

This is not something I'd recommend. Hardwood flooring is dried for interior humidity levels, and the glues and finishes used in its construction are meant for indoor use. Putting it outside could cause the boards to warp due to humidity differences, and the finish may not hold up to the elements. This may be mitigated slightly by the relatively protected nature of a ceiling (compared with the decking), but I still wouldn't recommend it.

I'm also not sure how using interior flooring on the ceiling would solve the problem of spider eggs?

thanks for the response. It does not solve the problem of spider eggs - just want something easier to clean. the knotty pine is very porous and so they can stick better to it. hardwood has a coating so nmot as easy to stick to (well thats what I was thinking) . Plus, I was thinking it would be a nice touch and tie in into the entryway. Thanks again!

What on earth makes you think spider eggs will not stick to the new wood? I also do not think indoor flooring works outdoors .
