Vacuum Cleaner for Hardwood Floors
Comments (9)I can personally recommend the Miele Olympus Canister Vacuum. I did A LOT of research and finally decided on this vacuum and I'm so happy with it. It's not loud like the others I looked at, it has many suction options, works fantastic on wood floors, tile and large area rugs. Another great thing is that it is light only 13lbs, easy to maneuver and it cleans SO WELL, you will not be disappointed with this vacuum. Miele is a German company that has been tried and true. Comments (10)Most vacuums are pretty good, if you like to spend time vacuuming and detailing all the little places and under the furniture. I don't, it's my least favorite thing...well, maybe mopping is my least favorite. However I have really clean floors, and the best part is that I hardly have to do a thing. On the hope that it would actually work, I bought a Roomba 500 series (the new models), and WOW, my only regret is that I didn't have this years ago. I love my clean floors. It gets under the cabinets, under low furniture, and everywhere WHILE I'm happily quilting! (: The most I have to do is dump it's bin, and check and clean it's brushes every week. I would have to do that type of maintenance with any vacuum. And, yes, it does pick up the likes of cat litter, pine needles, pet hair, etc. It even handles the thread and mess in my sewing room! It does such a great job that I added a Scooba to my 'bot crew. It washes the kitchen, tile entryway, and bathroom floors. This one does require that I put in water and Scooba soap, and then dump the dirty water on completion...but, wow...there isn't a day now that my floors don't look great in every room, and I put in very little time. I've been using the 'bot system now for several months and would never go back willingly. We live on acreage in the rainy northwest with FIVE boxer dogs running through the house -- that's 20 wet dirty dog feet. So, "best" for me means spending my time on something else while 'bots keep the floors detailed and looking great....See MoreBest Vacuum/Sweeper for hardwood Floors
Comments (16)We have over 2500 s.f. of hardwood in our home. I can't imagine the amount of Swiffer sheets I would need to use to clean my floor. For light dusting, I use a wide dust mop (sold in janitorial stores) -- it's probably about 3 feet wide and breezes through my floors. For more through cleaning, I use my central vac with the hardwood floor brush. Since we have a dog that loves to get little pawprints or water drips from her bowl all over the place, I periodically use a damp mop with only a couple drops of dish detergent in the bucket. I do a small area, then immediately dry thoroughly with large towel. I never use Murphy's. I would be very hesitant to use a vacuum because dirt gets embedded on the wheels and the weight of the vacuum along with that dirt may scratch the surface....See MoreVacuum Cleaners
Comments (42)I had the same question you did when I put in hard flooring. I needed to save money and get the most bang for my buck... I bought a HOOVER FLAIR Bagless Upright Stick Vacuum with Power Nozzle, S2220 (not the S2200) off Amazon.com and love, love, love, love, love, love, LOVE it! I'm IN LOVE with it! haha (I saw a quote on a review and I've adopted the phrase!) It's very reasonably priced ($45/free shipping), has great reviews, is bagless, great suction, very light (to me) and there's a switch that goes from hard floors to carpet/beater brush on that I use on my dining area rug. The cord length is great for MY use. It covers my kitchen, dining, foyer, hall, hall bath and laundry room! When I bought it I thought, for $45 I can try it and see how it works. If it doesn't I'll get a "better" one. It works though, so, YAY! I liked mine so much I bought one for my daughter-in-law. I got a text the other day that said: "I LOVE my birthday present!" We both used to SWEEP and I haven't swept now in months because it's great at sucking up the crumbs with no spreading it around in the air like a broom does. I DO clean the air filter (an old toothbrush works great) almost every time I use it just to preserve the machine & filter. It's amazing how much dirt/hair/debris it picks up. You can purchase new air filters but I haven't had to yet and have owned it for a good 6 months. I do not usually have big chunks of anything (like dog food) so can't comment on that. If I have something like that I pick it up first then get the rooms w/vac. Here's the Amazon link, hope it works: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00020BQGK Good luck...See MoreMelissa Galli
