Your good experiment with bench - similarly, might a rectangular planter work for you? maybe the center plant can be tall, some trailing... not a bad backdrop for greenery.

sell the doors, and plaster the space that arises.

Make glass shelves in it and use it to store pictures, plants and other small interesting things.

You can do the same with a dilapidated old door frame.

Got to be one of the strangest things I've seen in a house yet. How about remove the doors and sell, keep the trim and use the 4" of wall depth for a slightly recessed coat hanging area with pegs or hooks. You could paint it (and trim) your favorite accent color and turn it into a cool modern focal point with major functionality. Padded bench with shoe storage would be nice at bottom. You could really make a color statement here with paint and fabric. Of course all of this depends on what is behind the doors......

I suggest removing it and sheet rocking for a plain wall OR embracing it as a unique feature in the house, as you are doing nicely with the bench. Maybe add a plant?

Remove the doors and close up the wall. A 4”-recess could be used as a display area for art, but, unless you have no coat closet, I would not use the area for coat hooks.

What is on the other side of this entryway? Assuming this was a functioning closet at one time, and maybe they captured the space for an office/bedroom something behind here? Do you want a closet in the Entry? Maybe you can split it half way (side-to-side width) with whatever is on the backside.

If you can “shop in your house” for elements like I pictured, or shop carefully, it will be less expensive than removing, putting up new sheetrock, repainting that wall, and then still doing a vignette in this spot. When you enter your front door, is this the wall you face?

And you will need to find or match baseboard too. To say nothing of finding someone to do this small job. Not small to you but small to GC or local trades. Just being honest here. Of course we still don’t know what’s behind this either. 😊

If that's the only "feature" in your entryway they're doing a poor job. Don't you have something else you'd like to see in place of the doors? 4" does nothing for you either. Drywall it closed and put something decorative or practical there. Simply hanging art above that bench would be a huge improvement. Remember,the purpose of the entry is to introduce you, your style and to hint at what's to come in the adjoining spaces.

Nothing wrong with a new chandelier [spent with money not needed to remove it]... not so basic like the floor is. The arched mirrors are pretty, but any of that vibe needs to blend with basic flooring.

To me, grey-ish floor and cool tone of mirrors, me I'd probably go nickel satin chrome... unless first floor has alot of other finish???

The junction box is off center and the ceiling looks fairly low so an irregular lighting fixture is needed. How high is the ceiling?

Not as though you have a mirrored wall like old days. It's not horrible to me. I read about pothos plant as an air cleaner. Easy to grow. Might look really lush with 3 of them trailing down, wall- or ceiling- mounted...?

If storage is what you need there, here's an idea that's maybe a bit different. Find a suitable cabinet that's the same width as the doors, and about the height of the non-mirror part. Paint the cabinet and the doors the same colour as the wall, just a higher sheen paint. This is the idea.

Remove the doors, finish off the wall behind it , hang a nice mirror in the recess and push bench in so you can sit down to take your shoes off.

Remove and make built in cabinet or bookshelf.

Thanks everyone for all the wonderful suggestions!!! I would have never thought about selling the doors, if we take them down which we'll probably do...and put drywall but leave it recessed so we can have a focal point plus decor ὠ9
