Looking for 12" (or less) deep storage shelves...

I've searched for hours and can't find what I want. I'm looking for storage shelves for the laundry room. I have some Whitmor shelves that I use for gardening supplies and I know they're really heavy duty, so they would be my first choice, but I can only find them at 14" deep. Ideal dimensions would be 12" deep (max), 36" - 48" wide, and 32-48" high. Am I looking for something that doesn't exist? Here's an example of what Whitmor shelves look like. Any suggestions?

They might be hard to find because of the potential instability of putting things on that type of narrow and tall shelving. Even if you could find it I would be concerned.

Amazon has some 12" deep - you can filter by height, width and depth. I bought a unit from Amazon that is very compact but I checked my order history and found that it's 14 inches deep.

Height also relates to climate. Those who live further North must plant a little deeper than those who live in the deep South. You should also be careful when applying mulch/ and or compost each year. Don't put it up around the crowns. In fact, consciously pull it away from the crowns. I had a few that - even though I thought I'd been careful when applying mulch and compost, had become too deeply planted over the years. They had to be lifted and replanted after adding some soil to those areas. I made the mistake of dividing a huge clump of a favorite daylily a few years ago- replanted the clump into the same hole but only added a little soil. The clump was too deep and died the next summer. Have now replaced it and made sure to replant this time AFTER adding soil and compost to get the plant up high enough! It is now coming up fine this spring and I can't wait to see it, having missed its bloom season in 2008.

Pink, I am nearly positive my daughter's bathroom closet was going to have to have 9" shelving until I objected strongly, because you can't really put towels or sheets or anything on that depth. I'm not sure I'll want to store sheets in there because of the moisture issue, but towels may be there. They worked it out for 12" by cutting into the back side of the door jamb, which was fine with me. I'll find out today what kind it was. Are you sure you want that depth? What will you be storing on it? I mean, I know it's in the bathroom so obvious stuff like soap and toothpaste and tp, but will this be for towels as well? Amy

i'm sure the guys in customer service could tell you whether or not oven cleaner would be o.k. in the sink--though i'm sure it would, being ss and all. also, just fyi, the sink i got from them is rear-draining--that's the one i ordered that was not pictured on their website. one last note, depending on your countertop material, i highly doubt you will ever have to change out the sink in your lifetime. i have a 1950's home with everybathroom having a procelain sink undermounted to formica. i'm only changing them out now for aesthetic reasons, not because they were falling apart or anything. but my experience is limited to formica. just wanted to let you know--good luck on your search. it shouldn't be too hard finding one you like!

Well, I'm disappointed! I did not know that IKEA Sektion discontinued 12 inch drawers. I have an Akurum kitchen, with 2 12 inch, a 15 inch and 18" pull out, plus I hacked pullouts under my sink and converted another base cabinet. I was going to suggest ordering 12 inch door parts and attaching them to the 12 inch door. But since they no longer make 12 inch drawers that's not possible. It's really too bad since the 12 inch can act as filler many times and I find them quite useful. I have a 15 inch pullout next to my range that holds oils and other baking items. I do like the function of the drawers that pull out independently though since it can become very difficult to reach items when they are all attached to the door. Mine only has the base attached to the door with two independent drawers that I spaced according to the height of my items. I do actually like the Sektion 12 inch pull out since one side of it is not attached so it looks like it will be easy to reach items. I'd like it even better if I could add a small drawer pull out at the top of it. Sorry I was premature in my assumption that the new line would be more similar to the old in function. Hope you find what works for you.

blfenton, that may very well be the reason!

2katz4me, I searched Amazon first, and on 3 separate occasions, actually. lol! When I find 12" deep shelves, they're 60-72" high and 21" wide or less. :p Amazon has annoying search parameters... they have a checkbox for up to 11.99" deep, and checkbox for 12" - 17.99" deep, so it doesn't narrow my search enough. I'll go through 5 pages of bad hits and then I give up.

Thanks, bbstx! The first two are too tall (I don't want to block the window), but I think the last one would work if I put two of them side-by-side.

At Target I found shorter shelves in the same style, about 12” deep, and maybe 36“ or 42” tall. I keep something heavy, like refills, on the bottom shelf for stability, but even with just normal items on the bottom I’ve had not problems with tipping. (I don’t have toddlers who climb, though.)

Thanks, bpath, I’ll check at target. No toddlers here and I don’t expect to store anything that would cause tipping. 12” is a much more comfortable depth because I plan to situate it across from the machines and it’s only a 6’ wide laundry room. :)

If tipping is a concern, there are myriad ways to prevent it. All you need do is Google it.

Tipping isn't a concern at all. I just want something that's reasonably heavy-duty. I have looked at the Ikea website several times and have never found any storage/solutions/shelves that would work for me and my situations. However, I have two duvet covers from ikea that I love. lol!

Bookshelves are usually 12" deep. Could that work? Or what about shelves hung directly on the wall?
