Major misstep or can this work???
Comments (6)First, I should warn you that my opinions usually swim against the tide, but here's mine for what it's worth . . . I think you should definately go with some variation of silver for your hardware. The backsplash is beautiful and I think the accents are fab. I totally understand why you would choose dark hardware, but I think you'll get a lot more "POP" from something that connects the cabinets with the backsplash--especially since your cabinets are dark. If you choose something with a brown or black town, you won't have as much contrast with the cabinets. Something with a bit of silver will give you a much more dynamic look. I think your instinct to go with one of the wrought iron finishes that has a silver-tone to it is right on the mark. Not only will it tie in the pewter, but it will also give you an old-world look. If you have time, get a couple pulls in various finishes and try them to see what seems to give you the look you desire. I chose rustic bronze pulls, only to find realize that the look was boring and dowdy. Switched them out for big oversized black hardware. HOWEVER, I tried about 10 handles before I found the one that was just right. There are a number of sellers on EBAY who offer a variety of hardware at great prices. In any event, I suggest you try before you buy no matter what you choose. Hardware isn't cheap, it's important to get the one that will really work for you! Comments (4)Thank you frogpatch and housavvy. Frogpatch, your idea would be fine, but I'm not much at being "handy", although I could certainly manage to dril a hole, I guess. I'd prefer "ready-made" for simplicity. But I'll certainly keep that in mind. Housavvy, I like several of the lights at the link you posted. I appreciate everyone's input! Comments (49)This year I saw some contributions to the groaning table from my kids for the first time. Younger son visiting from the other coast pitched in with setting the table, reaching for the too high storage, and washing the wine glasses that had not been used since last year and other odd jobs. Local son and girlfriend brought lovely homemade yeast rolls and a homemade apple pie. Sister and her husband brought wine, vegetable, and salad. Son-in-law brought wine, DD and busy, darling grandsons. I roasted the stuffed bird, made the gravy, pumpkin bread, corn pudding, candied sweet potatoes, twice baked potatoes, minced meat peaches, coffee, and cranberry relish. I don't know how I would do it without our old and trusty double ovens. Everyone kept commenting that this was the best Thanksgiving dinner ever, but I don't know why. We have a basic holiday meal we like to make and only vary the dessert, salad and vegetables. However, it was too much but yummy....See MoreNeed help choosing outdoor entry light(s)
Comments (20)It looks ok to me from the pic, but that is a weird perspective. I like that the new light more closely matches the size of the mailbox. In general, I look for a grid for alignment. The top of the light looks like it almost aligns with the top of the trim. It's ok if it aligns with the bottom of the trim. It is probably ok wherever it is. The top of the mailbox I originally thought should be lower. If it's easy to temporarily remove the mailbox, I'd try it top aligned with the top of the trim, or the bottom of the trim. Or 2/3 overlap could be ok. Then you have the flag. So I would just play with the mailbox position so you have the right amount of space for the 3 items....See MoreRL Relocation LLC
