Mini-split advice needed

A Riley

Hello! We are adding a 400 SQ addition. It is a guest room with a bathroom off a short hallway next to the room. It is designed so that the guest room can be closed and the bathroom can still be accessible from our main level, but the guest could also close off the entire "suite" if they want the bathroom completely to themselves.

It was originally planned to be hooked into our central A/C system, but it turns out the contractor cannot run lines to the main bedroom due to the existing concrete pad and can only run lines to the bathroom. So we've been told we need a ductless mini-split for the bedroom.

Here is where I need advice. I have 2 questions -

1) Would it make more sense to install a dual-zone ductless mini-split instead of having the relatively small bathroom hooked into our main HVAC system while the bedroom is a mini-split? Our HVAC system does not do a great job with the rest of the house already.

2) Does anyone have experience with ceiling mounted mini-splits? If we hook up the bathroom, it would need to go in the ceiling as the wall space for a mini-split unit is minimal.

Thank you!
