Need to start over with my Pee Gee hydrangea
Comments (12)group of three pix above... top one.. can you see the difference between older branches.. and younger, browner branches???? you would take out some of the older stuff.. leaving the younger ... just cut out the most offensive one .... see how the plant responds ... and take another next summer ... you can always take more.. later.. after you learn a bit .. and practice ... but you can never staple them back on.. lol ... there is no reason to replace it... unless you just got a hate on for it ... at worse.. practice ... you can always remove it in a year or two.. after thoroughly messing it up.. lol.. been there.. done that ... ken...See MorePeeGee Tree
Comments (2)My hope is that you can click the link and then you can click on photos on my photobucket page. I posted a bunch of pictures that had the tree in it to show how its grown over the years. They all have a month and then the year; I'm obviously not talking about the pachysandra. :) The tree hydrangea is standing in the back of most of the photos. I'm not concerned with the mophead hydrangea in the garden. Here is a link that might be useful: Photobucket Pics...See MoreNeed some advice:PeeGee,Lacecap, and ES
Comments (2)If you have a sunny spot anywhere in the yard, the pee gees will like that. Once they are mature and flowering, they can bloom under an open canopy of less sun (alot in my neighborhood that are like that). The others might like the NE side if they can get a little more sun. It is often difficult to grow under the shade of a large maple. The 2nd house that we lived in as I was growing up has a neighboring house that had a maple tree like that (and its many babies that were large themselves) and it was a challenge. Those trees were finally removed last week and OMG what a difference. My mother now has a sunny yard for the first time in almost 40 years that she has lived there....See MorePeeGee tree hydrangea-small leaves & flowers
Comments (4)I have a 3-year old in a container that is blooming for the first time this year and depending on when yours started leafing out, it could be that the leaves are still growing and would get larger as the summer progresses. The weather this year has been odd so a number of plants (like my clematis) were affected by it and things have tended to go through cycles of rapid growth and then stalling and then more rapid growth, etc., as the temperatures have fluctuated. Also for younger plants like ours, it's often recommended to really prune back alot of the twiggy new growth to just a few larger stronger stems and that might help with leaf and flower size as the shrub won't have to concentrate on so many side shoots....See Moremainegard3
