How to maintain Asclepiads in a show-worthy look?

[G] [M]

I have been growing a handful of Stapeliads and I did not do it for long.

They grow well, propagate by cuttings, but they do not maintain their show-worthy look.

Here is a comparison of how they may look when I buy them (picture on the left) and then how they may look after a while (picture on the right).

So how would I go maintaining their smooth and colorful texture and avoiding the rough and dry-looking texture on the right, with many dry segments and necrotic lesions?
