Looking Your Best on Zoom
Comments (6)I saw the same video a couple of weeks ago and now I have the best lighting of my Zoom groups. It's so easy to test. I actually start hosting a faux Zoom session so you get the full screen, even better than on your phone. I move around the table and stop when the light is coming kinda straight on with minimal side shadows. A friend of mine persists in sitting under a skylight and wonders why the shadows are so brutal. The disconcerting thing about group Zooms is it's like you've always got a mirror in front of you and it's hard not to keep taking a peek and fiddling with your hair. Ring lights are great, but if you wear glasses they can often reflect weird circles on your lenses. But the light is very flattering....See MoreWorking from home reveals decor...
Comments (30)I also noticed Cynthia McFadden's home during a broadcast of CBS Sunday Morning. I love the rug in the room shown. One of my co-workers put a virtual background of the FS New York penthouse on her Zoom, and we all thought it was her living room until she told us otherwise. I was having real house envy! A couple more I like are William Brangham's of PBS NewsHour and the interesting things on Mo Rocca's wall. I noticed on the most recent SNL that some of the cast members have some really cool art on their walls....See MoreGet out of the box: design a backdrop for home office Zoom meetings...
Comments (10)I get it. It definitely depends on the nature of the business. One of my colleagues created a background utilizing our corporate logo and brands, and it was quite nice. Another used a beach background. (Really? You're in Tahiti? 😁) The ability to create our own backdrops reminds me a bit of being a kid and finally having my own school locker to decorate. I guess we never outgrow the desire for self-expression. Yours is a fun exercise, but many of us have to be careful about the message conveyed in the real world. So I guess the practical takeaway is to have fun being creative, while understanding that practical application may be something different. Just my two cents. (Oh, and please don't eat your lunch whilst the meeting is underway. Yep. Have seen, and heard, that recently. No.)...See MoreHelp with a “Zoom Room”
Comments (27)The right canvas needs to be rotated once more so it's positioned the way Melissa R pictured it. It also looks like the pictures are hung unevenly. Maybe it's an optical illusion created by the wallpaper, but it looks like a level might be needed....See Morel pinkmountain
