Pella Windows: Poplar White anyone???
Comments (3)The Poplar White color is a Beige/Cream color and it has been available in the Pella Architect Series for several years, but has only been available in the 850 Series that LOWES carries for about a year. If you have not seen the color you should and most LOWES stores have a display of the Pella Storm Doors in that Poplar White Color. Pella calls their Beige/Cream color Poplar White, JELD-WEN calls this color French Vanilla, and Anderson Windows calls this color Almond, but they are all about the same color. Most builders offer an Off White as a color option for the windows and trim, and it's really a matter of your personal preference. You may want to drive around and see what a house looks like with Beige/Cream Windows and Trim. Personally I would not yeld to the Builder's choice. It's your house and you will have to live with that color, and because you are getting the Aluminum Clad-Wood Windows the exterior can't be painted if you don't like it....See MorePella window question
Comments (20)Pat, what are your weighted goals for the project? Appearance, performance, maintenance, warranty, projected service life, etc? It sounds like you are not set on a material quite yet. I'd assess which things you value more, then choose a material that best fits those goals (ie: if a rich appearance is at the top then wood is hard to beat, whereas if you are more concerned about function than form, vinyl may be a very worthy consideration). Once you've narrowed this down to the best material to fit your needs, then choosing a great window is easier, as is comparing one to the next. On that note, I'd tend to agree with the others. My own experience installing Pella has not been good, and it is not out of the ordinary for us to replace those windows that are barely more than 10, 12 years old. The Marvin Integrity is very nice for a real wood interior. If you lean more to the performance/energy efficiency aspect, you have a great, high performance vinyl window maker in Okna right in your backyard as well....See MorePella vs Provia windows/ Need advice
Comments (10)Thanks fridge! I got a better view of the Pella 250 at a showroom and did not like it at all. The 350 seemed more like the Provia but I trust the opinions here and am staying away from it and going with the Provia for the sides and the back, but I think I need something different for the front and I am looking into the wood clads now for those 7 windows. WOW, I do prefer the SDL for some reason. We are in Nashville and it is a traditional/ southern ranch with SDL divided panes and it seems to suit the home's exterior. I am considering using the SDL grids for the front only and not have grids for the side and the back. I am going with Provia for the side and back of the house but have decided against vinyl for the front as the Provia has a bulky frame and I don't want to reduce the light into the front that much. I am having a hard time finding a reasonably priced wood clad for the front that optimizes the light coming in as much as possible. I like the Marvin but the estimate is 18K for seven windows (2 measuring about 42"x60" and 2 at 43"x70"). So, the search continues for the front window options. (I will gladly take any advice!) Thank you all again for the help....See MoreNew Pella windows look green?
Comments (11)I have seen others asking the same questions and had the same thing happen I have a sliding door that rarely gets any direct sun through it. But, when we had some work done on the deck and the deck boards were removed, the light did come through the glass door and I was surprised that it cast a green glow into the room. This is an Anderson door. I have heard others complain that the greenish glow altered the appearance of the color in the room. Still, your house looks fine....See MoreV lapinta
