Is anyone using wallpaper, in their new home?
Comments (26)The dining room is a print of a map that was enlarged then cut into sixteen individual pieces. Each one is then framed. I don't have any more details on who/how the process was done. There seem to be a lot of companies that have the ability to print a picture on large canvases now...I guess you could use that as a start (canvasondemand.com, costco, etc.)...See MoreAny Guesses on Year my Home Was Built
Comments (13)This house being an apparent vernacular design (that is a common house of it's period not designed by an architect), it becomes a little harder to date. The features and forms are simplified versions and borrow from several of the "high styles" of the late 19th/early 20th century at once. The roof form suggests late folk victorian, the porch (which could have been enclosed later) is Craftsman in style. As JDS suggests above, your best bet is to date it by the construction methods and materials present in the home. My guess based on the appearances alone is sometime around 1910 (based on the trim style, proportion of the rooms, and roof shape) plus or minus 10 years....See MoreWallpaper removal fail. What to do if the wallpaper comes off uneven?
Comments (12)Sorry to hear about your experience. Mine is/was similar. I found several layers of wallpaper, with a skim coat in between, and then under that, it seems to have been applied directly to drywall. I have removed a lot of wallpaper in the past, but I ended up damaging the drywall in one room so badly, we decided to hire someone. I had several contractors come through who looked at the amount of wallpaper and wouldn't do it! One guy was willing and he starts this morning so I will see what magic he uses. If he has any tips, I will share....See More1970s home, removing wallpaper - what are these walls?
Comments (2)A lot can happen to a house over 50 years. It sounds like two of the walls were properly prepped before the wallpaper was applied and two were not. I'm not surprised that someone painted over wallpaper - people do it all the time. It doesn't really matter what the walls are made of. All you need is a smooth solid surface to put your mark on the room....See MoreElizabeth
