Comments (41)Wooo!!! Cat, I am stuck at home because of the snow storm so wandered around here not looking at anything in particular and came upon your thread. I totally agree with you on the shower curtain choice. Regardless of whether I have the money to spare or not, keeping those suckers clean is a nuisance over time. We have a glass shower door that was installed back in 2003 and I can't tell you how much I hate cleaning it. Not that the door is all that dirty, but a shower curtain is way easier, and you can change the look/style whenever you feel like it. Can't do that with a pricey shower door. Anyway, everything looks lovely as usual, including the "prom" dress :-) Love, love those circular tiles, and the floor tiles that look like fabric. Gorgeous. What colour is that again? It looks greyish on my monitor....See MorePlacement of bathroom French doors
Comments (38)Thank you all so much for your feedback! I have incorporated a lot of your comments into the design. I am going to propose the following changes to the builder (we are mid framing): Increase French door width to 6 feet. Make the 3 foot door panel closest to sink fixed. Make the functional 3 foot door near tub swing inward. I will have him keep the doors pretty much centered on the bedroom vault but go over one foot longer to accommodate the extra foot (especially since really shouldn’t get closer to sink). This will also make the bathroom seem more balanced I think and the operable door with open to the chandelier in the bathroom. I will also place a large full length mirror on back wall next to linen closet which will reflect light from large bedroom window feature (and hopefully be more attractive than looking at plain wall or side of bathroom door) Change shower door swing and add a towel bar on door (this is brilliant!). Should the towel bar be on outside of door itself or to the left? Change WC door to be a pocket door to eliminate the look of so many doors and so don’t have to look at it when open (and we often would probably leave it open so this way it doesn’t block mirror). I will have to ask contractor about this but I suspect he could do pocket door into the open attic space. I will change the direction and swing of both closet doors and will also ask about cost to upgrade them to French doors (well single door but glass with divided panes— and will do white curtain on back like suggested). Do you think it’s worth it to upgrade linen closet to same door? Thank you for all the suggestions!!...See MoreNo hand towel holders in bathrooms
Comments (31)Does anyone remember the counter pig in Kitchens around 18 years ago? Someone had a fairly large ceramic pig that she put on her kitchen counter to drape the hand drying towel on top of so that it could dry out of range of the kitchen mess, but still in an easy to reach position near the sink. It became a ”thing” for a while in the Kitchens Forum at Gardenweb. I could see a character from one of the kids’ favorite books or movies standing in a pose with an arm (or tail or trunk or whatever appendage) extended to hold a towel. Enlarge a picture from a coloring book, cut it from a piece of wood on a bandsaw, mount it on a heavy base, and sand and paint and varnish it. I would suggest repurposing an action figure, but they have become so small, they could not even hold a fingertip towel. Or get one of those “kids at play” warning figures that you put at the end of your driveway to warn the kids to not go past it and warn drivers to watch for kids. Don’t they have an arm extended? Something big like this would be on the floor, at the right height for little ones. Look through your parents’ old decorative items for a big ceramic pig or goose. They were quite popular at one time. Pigs were often painted with flowers. A goose could hold spare towels folded across her back and the ”in use” towel would drape over her head....See Moresize and placement of art in bathrooms
Comments (9)"Who's eye level? A 5 foot person's? or a 6'4" person? Quite different." I'm 5'3" and I live alone, so most of my art hangs so that the center of the work fall at around 60." If my 6' boyfriend and I ever live together, I'll probably split the difference. I believe that 57" is standard "gallery height." That said, I have art in my home that is much lower, and some that is higher, depending on furniture and other features in my home. It's not a hard & fast rule, but it is a good rule of thumb....See Moretartanmeup
