New Home - Lawn Holds Water

Hi All - Just bought a new home in Zone 6A. Going to get a soil test, but hoping there something I can do now before winter sets in.

The best way to describe my lawn right now is "squishy". Grass is growing great, but seems to stay water logged. We haven't had 'heavy' rain in a week or more and it's still squishy.

It's about an 2/3 an acre of grass. My immediate thought was to aerate and dethatch, but I think the issue is probably below the surface. Maybe the sandy/clay soil is the root cause and aerate / dethatch won't be of much help.

Any thoughts? I also have a sprinkler system, which would make doing the above a bit more tricky.

Thanks in advance for any input!
