not sure which paint direction to go with SW wool skein

I am trying to find a paint color for my daughter’s study. It is a small room, 12 x 12 with 10 foot ceilings, and a 9 foot high window that faces south. White Venetian blinds on the window. The rest of the first floor is painted in SW relaxed khaki. The study is at the front of the home and needs a color that will work with all of the relaxed khaki. I have tried SW wool skein as it is the lighter color on the strip. The online photos are beautiful. When I put it on the primed drywall it looks like a mid tone gold. Not subtle at all. I tried reducing the formula by 30% and 50%. Both were fairly bright yellows. I don’t know if it is the size of the room or the southern light. SW restful white trim and doors (yellow undertone). Fairly bland grayish beige carpeting. No other furnishings to influence the color. (They just moved in). Anyone have experience with Wool Skein in a south facing room? I thought it might wash out, instead it is a pretty intense gold. I am not sure what direction to go. The yellow seems too much for the small room.

Wool Skein + Relaxed Khaki are both quite colourful colours from the Yellow Hue Family.

In rooms heavier on the warmer wavelengths of light, that is likely to be more enhanced.

These are increasingly more greyed, (less Chroma) colours, from around the same Yellow Hue Family neighbourhood. They will be ’less yellow’ than either Wool Skein or Relaxed Khaki.

Alternatively you can find a harmonising colour from a different Hue Family to work with Relaxed Khaki. Don’t feel obliged to explore only lighter/darker/more greyed variants of it.

I've actually used all three...I love them all! They just seem so versatile and I loved mixing and matching them with other colors. I even used the relaxed khaki to paint my dated oak kitchen cabinets in my last house. For my new home I used wool skein as the main color in the open spaces ( kitchen , great room, hall ways) I did that because one of the builders who posts on the builders forum said that was his go to color. He posted pictures of several of his homes and I really liked them. It seemed like a good choice and I was tired of making decisions, LOL. I don't regret it at all. For contrast, I ended up using darker colors in my bathrooms and some of my bedrooms.

I would never recommend a specific color in anyone else's home or office and that's why I never do :-) Color is affected by everything from the orientation of the room to the height of the ceilings, the flooring, amount of fenestration, type of overhead lighting and wattage of lamps, and your location's latitude. It's a complete mystery to me how people can pick a color off a chip or use a paint because someone else has it in his or her home. Perceived undertones are just as affected by all of the above. Our accessible beige looks gray at night!

My entire house is painted SW6148 Wool Skein, a "safe" color recommended by our realtor. It is not too dark for us. It does however have a slight green undertone and thus does not coordinate well with a basic beige color. We used SW6150 Universal Khaki as the accent color under the chair rails. My ceilings, plantation blinds and all woodwork are white which helps to brighten the space.

@penn307 omg that’s so weird because SW Alabaster looks peachy in my house! I still haven’t found another review saying that to this day, and I’m so baffled when people say it looks grey/yellow. Its really grown on me and I like the vibe of it. now I’m painting the whole house either chantilly lace or simply white BM and they both look ver y stark next to the alabaster. See how peachy the alabaster looks in comparison to the other whites? On the left is chantilly lace, center is Swiss coffee @ 75%, right is simply white BM.

The SW accolade was way too pricey. Only in an upper end Emerald line. The SW sales lady directed me to SW Grecian ivory. Very similar to accolade. It looks perfect!!! Creamy ivory, hint of gray and occasionally a hint of green. It is not screaming gold or yellow like everything else we tried. Beautiful warm color. Keeping the trim Restful white because they do not want to redo the whole house trim. I highly recommend this color! PS both photos make this look a lot darker than it really is
