So Gorgeous this time of year — share your fall!
Just have to share my views — often I just glance out and gasp at the colors! Share your fall colors because every part of the country has different but equally beautiful views. i really miss red maples this time of year.

2 years agoNo real fall colors here yet, although I did find some on the ground last weekend! I’m experimenting with preserving leaves using glycerin, so took these home with me.
We are headed to Bar Harbor, ME, soon and hope to see lots of color up there!Related Discussions
Share your fall and spring fruit tree orders
Comments (38)I went a tad overboard myself this year. I only intended to replace two plums which had left holes in my 10 tree orchard lineup. But we got irrigation water awarded to us last year, and on the assumption that we'd get it again this year, I folded and decided to put in the second line of trees. Plus it'd be nice to get some highway noise reduction started, so I.. well... Comments (22)Jane, torture for the plant too. Bare rooted? Haven't read Wilford's article, but i'd be surprised if he is growing the orchid bare rooted. This is not an orchid that comes from a Monsoonal Climate. The Climate has higher rainfall in late summer/early autumn and the lowest rainfall occurs late winter/spring, but this is just on average and heavy rainfall can occur any time of the year. Perhaps East Coast erratic is the best description. Anyway, follow Wilford's notes if you live in Climates with severe winters. For what it is worth, mine are grown underpotted in a bark/pebble mix and get an average of six hours sunlight filtered by two layers of 50% shadecloth in summer, one layer of 50% shadecloth in winter. Average Temperature ranges Winter 7-17C Summer 17-27C Extreme annual range 1- 44C Rainfall About 40 inches No fertilizer and no watering apart from natural rainfall in winter. Though i might give the plants a meagre squirt of water if there are weeks and weeks of no rainfall and the arid westerly winds are blowing....See Morebest time of year...spring or fall

Comments (21)My toughest problem is what in the world should I do with my hardy kiwi? I used to have 5 arches that I grew hops, squash, cherry tomatoes and of course, the kiwi. All 5 arches broke during a freak October snow storm. I reworked that garden area by putting in 4 4x4 beds for my tomatoes. I left the hops in place but put in a tepee type pole trellis for them. But the darned kiwi. I shored it up by putting 10' rebar and wire around each of them but its sprouting out all over the place and really looks very messy. With the arches gone it looks so out of place. I'm afraid to move it and I was hoping it might actually make some fruit this year. My dad who is strictly a function over form veggie gardener even commented on strange it looks where it is....See More

First in the Upper Peninsula and now our RV is parked beside my sister and BIL’s beautiful pond on their 27 acres in the Lower Peninsula. Their home is on the property, too. Here are some pics I’ve taken here.

I took these at their big annual Welcome Autumn party a couple of weeks ago. A harvest feast, hayrides, pumpkins to decorate, a bonfire, and lots of family and friends.

We do not yet have any color change, our leaves are still green here. But we also went apple picking today :)

She did help B turn two though :)
And they took a recent nap together when we went camping w/ my in-laws.

2 years agoLoving all your colorful fall pics and cute kiddos! WI & MI will always have my autumn heart.
Still too early for whatever color we will get here in the Blue Ridge. It's never the show that's seen in New England or the upper mid-west with the brilliant red maples and bright yellow birches - our forests are more muted. The color word around our place is pink which hardly equates to fall - pale pink muhly grass, dark pink guara, mixed pinks azaleas.... and those brilliant blue skies.

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoWe are road tripping, and as i mentioned above, colors are not changing much yet. We ran into a bit more color in part of NC and over the Plateau in Tn. Have been on the lake the last few days, and while very little color change, absolutely beautiful weather, mid 80s. (I”m in flip-flops!) Cant wait to see if we have more color at home.

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoGorgeous photos, everyone!!! I don't have anything colorful to photograph at the moment. They gave an update on the state's fall color schedule and we were told that we'd have poor color this year due to overly warm temperatures and a lack of sun.

2 years agoA glorious week to be at our place in Maine... 70s all week, and it hit 75 here yesterday. We've been loving our scenic drive to our favorite specialty cafes and grocers, which takes us along charming coves and harbors.

2 years agoI heard about the snowstorm in ID I think it was . . . sent a shiver down my spine, I'm so not ready for gardening season to be over. I was working last spring and missed that window . . .

2 years agoI kind of have a survival of the fittest attitude although I do tend it now and again, more like "nudge" it a bit. But I just figure nature can do its thing and I'll take random acts of beauty wherever and whenever I can catch them. It's a mess even by cottage standards, but I have a large yard and a lot of projects that I'm juggling right now, so sometimes I just have to live with "good enough for now."
Here's another fall "work in progress" but I haven't posted about it because it's not finished. Refinishing deck in progress. Not my ideal of what I wanted it to be, but again, good enough for now . . . shown here with my latest plant purchase for another ongoing project, a memorial Japanese garden that has a long way to go too . . . I just focus on one little drip at a time.
And here's a copper beech (poor photo) that I just finished mulching and putting out a memorial sign. Planted in honor of my late uncle, WWII vet . . . he was in the scrap metal business so copper is somewhat fitting, and he supported a lot of other people, like a beech tree supports a lot of wildlife. It's not a great photo, doesn't show the color, which really isn't that spectacular in the fall, spring is its season.
