Go to a Hunter Douglas dealer. There are a million options. Go in person.......bring the samples home.

Why cellular shades? Not the MOST attractive window covering: ) rather utilitarian..............

JAN MOYER, thank you, I'll try Hunter Douglas. I know what you mean, they are utilitarian. But I'm looking for something that is inside mount, has a small stack, that can be blackout level or at least almost, and I don't want anything with slats because I like either a full view of the outside or no view, I don't like partial views. Also I need window coverings for my entire main floor and upstairs so cost is a consideration. Also want some level of thermal protection. So that's how I arrived at cellular shades. I will add drapes to my bedroom windows and my living room window. If you have any other suggestions, I welcome them. (I'm probably going with white for a uniform look that doesn't fight with the trim, and so I don't have the expense of changing again in a few years as I might if I choose a pattern.)

Jan Moyer, as I'm scrolling through various threads on cellular shades, I've seen several comments from you, basically making people feel bad for considering cellular shades. The reality is that many folks PREFER cellular shades for a number of reasons. I personally cannot WAIT to ditch the wooden Roman shades over the kitchen window of my new home, as well as the wood blinds in the office space, replacing both with top down bottom up shades. I also don't like heavy drapery, have no use for sheers, and have some windows where shades are simply the best choice. It's great that you come here to help people, but maybe just answering their question without the implied judgement would be better received. As a pro, you should know that.

I welcome any specific suggestions for other options that are inside mount and a small stack. I've done research but haven't found anything but I am a non-pro, obviously.

Reverse roll roller shades with no cassette are pretty unobtrusive and adding a cassette doesn’t add much to the stack if you don’t want reverse roll. My husband HATES window treatments of any kind and I was expecting so much complaining when I installed ours (white linen-look cordless with fabric wrapped cassette) but he actually didn’t even notice till I pointed them out. Norman was the lowest profile I found - did not look into Hunter Douglas since those were over budget.

Hi bennoch, yes, I ended up with Hunter Douglas on our main floor. (We got cheaper shades from Home Depot for the less used upstairs area so we could afford HD downstairs!) I used Oxford color Duettes and I am happy with them. I looked at many options in both HD and several other brands and never found a perfect match. Oxford is close enough for me, especially in the light filtering fabric, it looks very nice. We did our bedroom in a room darkening option and it doesn't match the trim quite as well but I never found any room darkening option that I thought looked really good with my trim. The room darkening material just has a flattening affect on the fabric that I don't care for, but it is what we needed for our bedroom. The Hunter Douglas quality is great, we are very happy with our shades, both function and look. (A local salesperson suggested Daisy White as a match with SW Pure White trim. I ultimately liked Oxford better but Daisy White would be worth a look.) Let me know if I can answer any other questions. Good luck.

Update: I ended up going with Graber cellular shades as they were more affordable than HD. I went with Splendor Freshwater Pearl (color 1322-LCS). There was not a perfect match (especially with blackout) but I'm happy with the decision.

In my current house I installed Hunter Douglas Duettes in Daisy White to go with my BM Chantilly Lace trim and it works fine. In my previous house I used the same Daisy White with BM Simply White trim and they looked good too.

Since we built a new house, this time around I had all the HD Duette shades powered (low voltage wiring) and automated. Sure sometimes you get glitches when using technology, but 99% of the time I love not having to manually raise or lower my shades to keep up with the light/heat coming through windows or manually open/close them in the morning or evening.
