I'm not a tile expert but I thought that some of the grout was generally left on the tile and needed to be cleaned off after the grout cured. If the installer is too aggressive at removing the fresh grout it could remove the grout you want to remain. A quick Google search turned up this page which seems to confirm what I thought: http://homerenovations.about.com/od/tiling/p/GroutHaze.htm It is the installers job to remove and the haze is not unusual.

Perhaps it is load bearing. I ask because I wondered if you took it down whether you would have a longer wall to work with. Do you need the left door? I am assumng the fireplaces are in a wood-structure wall covered with decorative stone. Or is your house made of stone? It seems to me that if you can bear the sight of the right-side fireplace, it would be a simple matter to create a large shelving unite that completely covers the left side without removing anything. You would no doubt want to change the ceiling lighting, which would be more work, and you might want to remodel the right side and change it to be something you like looking at more. I think it would be harder to simply cover up the right side because of the way it meets the doorway on the right side, and that entire area. (Perhaps if you are willing to lose that door, creating a ”false” wall that hides the whole shebazz gets much easier — but only a contractor can tell you, and about whether actually removing or sealing up one or both fireplaces is doable. Here are some ideas that maybe you could borrow from when thinking about how you would could create a new design you like. Obviously they are not exactly the shape of your room but maybe they are useful for deciding on style and direction

Hi all, @Lindsey_CA, sorry you lost me which is very easy.... Lol. You meant TV on top of FP? If it is, we don't like it. The windows and doors are purchased and in a long waiting list... @Mark Bischak, we live in a cold weather so it will be nice having one and it will also reduce the resale price w/o one @Candace, we have the dimensions and both can be very close to the wall. That is the point, if we should just have it totally fushed ( no surround) or have maybe 12 to 18" out. Not sure if 18" would be too much, too little and will make it look weird. Thanks all
