How long should pony wall be?

I’m converting an alcove tub to a step-in shower. I want to eliminate the need for a shower curtain. my floors are tile, but my walls are painted. We will have a pony wall, 42” high high, with a glass partition on top. The alcove is 60” inches side to side. What should be the length of the pony wall?

The installer told me it should be half the size of the opening, whoch would be 30 inches, but I don’t think that’s long enough to keep the water from splashing outside the shower. And, from a design perspective, wouldn’t it look weird to have it be exactly half?

Any advise would be appreciated..
