Yes, I usually look away. Even though as a military trained medic, I was taught to do all kinds of injections, draw blood, start IVs, etc., And practiced doing same over and over to gain proficiency.

it doesn't bother me at all doing it or looking at others. It doesn't bother me when I'm the recipient and I can look at a venous catheter or a needle in my arm after the puncture. For some reason, I just don't look at the puncture, perhaps a habit developed as a child.

I always watch as it does not bother me. I have had so many shots or blood work done over the years I would rather watch what they are doing.

When getting an injection I usually neither watch nor turn away. But I do turn away when blood drawn, or an IV inserted.

I look away. I've have had so many surgeries and treatments that I'm not afraid but I just don't need to watch.

I look straight ahead for an injection. I almost always watch them draw blood. So many have screwed it up and i end up with bruises. And I have ’nurse p*rn’ veins, according to my DD. If I see a tech fumbling with my arm veins, I ask for a nurse with experience to draw it.

To assist the person administering the shot, I keep my head facing forward with shoulders and arms relaxed. Turning your head in either direction results in shoulder and/or arm tension. you should not tense up in any way.

I'm not squeamish so viewing doesn't matter.

Nope, don't watch. I'm not afraid of getting the shot (or of having blood taken); I just prefer to look straight ahead.

I look away but not when it's someone else. Everything is very interesting when it's not you. lol When I had my son before I became a nurse, was asked if I wanted to see him being born, by c-section. I declined. I do not want to see that. Now, watching other people have procedures and operations of all kinds is very interesting (except maybe a rotator cuff repair-extremely boring).

I had a condition where I had to have my blood drawn every week. I have learned to look away when they draw my blood. I can't explain it, but when they do, I feel my temperature rising, I feel really hot, and I really want to punch somebody?!

I really don't understand it. I've seen severed body parts??? For real. I work in a hospital. But if I see my own blood gushing, I've come close to fainting.

It's different when it's somebody else. I shift into overdrive and can dictate what goes on. To the point of, I can help everybody else, and make it all happen.

When it's me I'm a wimp. Who knows why!

I’m an RN in the surgery department, and I always turn my head away- but only when it’s me on the wrong end of the needle!

I might glance to see if they're done yet, but rarely watch the whole procedure. DH can tolerate quick jabs, but if he needs to have blood drawn, he will faint. He's learned to tell the staff that before they start anything, so they can be prepared. Luckily he doesn't need bloodwork but once in a blue moon.

Nope--I don't want to watch a needle pierce any skin let alone mine. The photos of folks receiving COVID vaccines OOK me out. I had a pediatrician scold me once for not watching him jab my baby. I also ask the phlebotomists not to wave a vial of blood in front of me to identify the label on it as mine.

I once had major surgery with a very long abdominal incision. When it came time to take out the staples-a serious bunch of them-some were sort of overlapped. I helped the nurse who was removing them decide which one to try next. He was grateful for my help since he didn't want to cause me any more pain than necessary. I had no problem of course. I watch when blood is drawn to see if it is going well. I don't mind shots. I come from a tough family. No whinging allowed.

I just kind of look straight ahead I guess. I am not squeamish about needles. The only thing that I cannot take is when they are drawing blood and do that twisty turny thing in my arm because the are not skilled enough to hit the vein. I have vomited in response to the twisty turny in the arm move.

I too am tired of seeing clip after clip after clip of needles sinking into peoples arms on the news. I get it, the vaccine is big news, but why cant you just show the person talking? Why show all these anonymous arms being jabbed over and over and over? There are people out there with a real and intense fear or aversion to needles and shots and I cannot imagine all those images are helping encourage those people to face their fear in order to get vaccinated.

i look straight ahead. i don't necessarily fear needles, i just don't like them. over the years, i've given injections to horses, llamas, goats, pigs. those never bothered me much. i have given monthly adequan injections to a couple of dogs. they never seemed to faze them in the least but i always found myself apologizing profusely for having to do it.

When I was a little kid getting shots I'd watch the needle go into my arm even though my mom and the doc tried their best to distract me. Today I look the other way.

What does it for me is the smell of the antiseptic wipe they use before the shot. I had chemo for breast cancer almost 30 years ago (GO ME!), and the odor brings it all back like it was yesterday. So I close my eyes and grit my teeth.

I never look when someone is puncturing me with a needle. I might faint I don't even like seeing it on tv, and we’ve had plenty of that in the last 18 mos.

I don't think its necessarily a matter of whining or lack of being tough -- for many it's a visceral response, and better to know yourself (and roll with it) than to try joining the tough club (and fainting, which doesn't help anyone).

Oh yes - there is a condition that truly causes people to faint at the sight of blood - vasovagal syncope. My adult son has it.

I don't turn away, but don't zero in on the procedure either, lest I make the tech or RN nervous. If someone is failing to insert a needle for an IV, though, *then* I look and call for another person to do the job. (I've had an infusion against my blood cancer weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly for three years now to combat multiple myeloma. This will continue as long as they keep making successful meds...or until I die. I hope my veins hold out; don't relish getting a 'port'.)

I don't watch the needle going in but I'll watch after for blood draws. I have really difficult veins and it usually takes them a few tries from a few people to get my blood. I've started requesting they start with my hand. It hurts more but it's much easier to hit and I'd rather more pain than 10+ arm attempts with all the digging.

I usually don't watch shots, but do for iv's and blood draws. I think it is part of the relaxation process.

I don't look. I also bite on a paper towel and if possible, lie down. I ask the phlebotomist to let me know when we are more than halfway done, and also let me know when they take out the needle. I'm not a wimp in any other area, but blood has always freaked me out. I can't even watch it in movies, even when I know it's just red corn syrup. (A friend of mine did special effects for horror films.) I can barely handle feeling my own pulse. One time my husband got a nosebleed and I fainted.
