Ever finish someone else's project? Advice?
Comments (6)Susan is right. There's actually not much to even consider until you actually see the project and what is provided. Without a pattern it isn't an impossible task, but it could prove very difficult, even if the rest of the materials are present. I attempted (and miserably failed) to complete a rather old tablecloth and repair an equally old afghan, just because I cringed at the thought of the destruction of so much work. But having no idea of the exact threads, hook sizes, etc., I was utterly unsuccessful. I ended up throwing the afghan away, but I saved the tablecloth - just packed it away. Someday when I am feeling up to it, I plan to cut away the damaged motifs and see about possibly making a few smaller mats out of it. It is a sweet thing for you to do, but I wouldn't make any promises without seeing first what might be required to finish the job....See MoreOT - Do you know how someone could have gotten my email address?
Comments (11)Hi there, I just wanted to respond to this post since I emailed someone that didn't necessarily have their email address on gardenweb. Sometimes when I search for certain things, like "white cabinets," a ton of posts with pictures of kitchens that do not necessarily appear in finished kitchens blog show up. Many times these are pictures off of photobucket. In one particular instance, I went back to find those photobucket pictures to show my husband, and I simply searched in google "GW's screen name kitchen" His or her email came up on google, and I emailed them asking if they minded sharing where they got their cabinets since they are local to Chicago, where I live. I would not be offended if someone emailed me asking me that, and so I didn't think anyone else would be offended either. Anyway, I just wanted to share how it is I came upon getting someone's email...actually quite unintendedly. hth, Pebbles81...See MoreDo any of you know someone who was or is in the Marine Corp?
Comments (29)My first boyfriend, and I guess first love, was in the Corp. I was still in HS at the time - he had graduated the year before, so that was quite a while ago. But, I remember the pride he had, being a Marine. That must have passed to me because I wanted to join. Everyone told me that I was crazy because women did not belong in the Corp at the time, and encouraged me to join the AF instead. I never did though. I have to say that my friend was not the best "kid" before going into the Military, but he truly grew up while there. But I think it was the Marine Corp that did it. They are truly a special group - there is a bond that is almost unspeakable. My friend went to Nam, and it was a different Corp then, then now. But, out of all the branches of the Military, I think there is something about a Marine in dress blues that you don't find anywhere else. I had several family and friends in different Branches, including my Dad who was in the AF, and a family friend that was career Army and the first minority General in his rank (don't remember which, but it was in Life magazine). But seeing my friend after having spent time in the Corp, I know there is a difference, and he was different too. He had some fears but the Corp's principles gave him a sense of pride and mystery that you kinda never could crack. Even still, he never brought it home; I just knew it was there, if you will....See MoreDo you ever say "Stop, I KNOW that house" while driving?
Comments (22)Absolutely! Was driving around Burlington, VT trying to get a feel for the area while starting our real estate search. I recognized this one immediately, as it's not what I normally think of for a lake house in Vermont!
