Thanks for the links to how to upload photos..I'm not too excited about yet another subscription to use an external site for my photos just to do this..The "test" page brings up a "browse" box which I assumed allowed you to pull up your image, but when I actually went to post, only the URL box showed up. I'll have to look into this a little more to see if there is anyway to avoid using another service. KitchenAddict & Circuspeanut - I Love your kitchens! KitchenAddict, if I ever get these posted, you'll see that we alomost have the same countertop, faucet, and all of us are even using white roller shades! (Tip- They can be hung backwords so you don't see the roll but the opening on the fastener is at the bottom so it could fall out easier. If you don't open and close it a lot, it's well worth it. I'm just super careful when I do it. For me, it's just a quick fix until I figure out what I want to use but considering painting a cool pattern on mine once I get a little further along into the project. I'll share those too as this progresses. Thanks for sharing the photos, they help a lot...Still hoping for more! Would love to see someone who has taken the tile all the way up around the sink window to help me decide.

thank you all for your kind and honest comments. i feel much better about it after reading your comments :) pricklypearcactus, the tiles are all daltile. I used the 3x6 contempo white from their marble collection, and the small square ones are the mosaic contempo white from their Stone a la mode collection. the 3x6 do not have much color variation in the stone - just a very light grey veining - which is what I wanted because it's a big kitchen. that's also why we didn't go with a gray grout. the kitchen kind of has a lot of things going on in it and i wanted the backsplash to look pretty, but also not make a loud statement. Here is the view of the kitchen before they put in lights and granite. unfortunately, brickton, what you said is probably EXACTLY what i was thinking but couldnt articulate. the clipped corners were the first thing i noticed i didn't like. What do you think about removing the 3x6 around the window and replacing with just the mosaics (and not trying to "frame" the window)? I'm unsure how clean/straight of a cut our tile guy can do. It is kind of starting to grow on me, I think just because I wanted to close on this house like a month ago! We have been married 11 days and are living with my parents.

Looks like a consensus then... I'll take out the top 5 tiles. The 6th tile down is coped around the bottom edge of the cabinet so I'll keep that one in. Natesgramma - The paint around the top portion of the window is the same paint as the rest of the kitchen. A white crown molding will go all around, including above the window area. I wasn't planning on doing a window treatment as I like that particular window bare. Yes, I love Anita's backsplash. At first I think the tiles should be the same height as the ones under the range hood, and noticed Anita's window and range hood are on two different walls. BUT I think mine will look fine if they're not level. If anything, I think it makes the area under the range hood more of a focal point. Thanks all, I needed a confirmation that it wasn't just me. DH isn't convinced but I'll show him this post. How long can we wait before we pry off the tiles, I wonder?

Thanks for the comments. nutbunch - our countertops are 3 cm thick. I haven't thought of laminate. Will look into that. petra_granite - in retrospect I would have loved to use the contertop granite on the bay window area. We even had it measured at the time, but it would have raised the base of the bay window too high making it impossible to turn the handle of the window to open it. remodelfla - I like the idea of glass inserts with ceramic tile. But it is still hard for me to visualize the front edge of the bay window as it turns down to the wall behind the sink. The contrasting color I'd like to bring out from the granite is the deep red or brown. bill_vincent - very nice picture. Hadn't thought of that contrast idea. My window is lower down that the one pictured - mine is about 5 inches up from the countertop. Do you think if I framed the bottom window with wood trim molding that it would get too wet from water at the sink? I know I could put lots of coats of paint, but is that enough protection? Is there another material to use to frame a window when there is a water source nearby? Thank you.
