I bought a tropicanna last year from Lowes and through even this summer it has grown without any visable problems. I bought a black one a couple weeks ago from a local nursery and it turned out that after spending a couple weeks noticing its growth to be odd, that it was diseased. I have thrown it in the trash, luckily it grew far from my canna and my neighbors. Locally I have noticed most cannas in nurseries are diseased now that I know the traits. I have to wait to see if my other canna was contaminated by pruning off old flowers, though I don't recall having to cut any off. I didnt realize this had all gotten so serious. How is the wholesale trade keeping thier stock alive to even sell them? I would almost think it wouldnt be long before they have nothing left. I had hosta that had virus before among roses and even black eyed susan. Gardening seems too difficult these days with a global plant market distributing out of one place. There are no guards in place to protect our plant supplies and communities. I have a feeling that cold regions probably have the least diseased material since here many people don't plant them yard to yard for which I am thankful. My neighbors have huge numbers of a heritage canna that has been in their family for years so I am trying to keep my yard clean for them too. Isolation by being zone 5 is my only comfort at the moment.

I'd agree with Raxidor. That looks a lot more like Portulacaria...aka elephant bush/tree/plant. A pretty impressive one, at that, despite the lack of leaves. Full sun with very fast soil and light but consistent fertilizing should do fine. If it's anything like mine are, the roots are rather impressive for a succulent. I take mine out regularly to root prune and stick back in, but without it, it'd need a bigger pot. If it were mine, I think I'd leave it that way and just repot it. It'd be really striking & interesting with tiny leaves forming all over once it comes back into season. Otherwise, in your case, I'd lop off the tops and any branches not growing vertical. Leave them out for a day or two then stick in the same pot or a separate pot. Can't help with bonsai but you can ask Al (aka screen name tapla; aka bonsai master; aka our very own gritty mix professor). I don't know that I have ever seen a portulacaria bonsai. Must be getting rather nippy in the UK now and your rains are no joke, haha, so keep it warm and in the brightest light you have. I find my portulacaria take/accept more water than my other succulents (all in the same loose mix) without suffering at all. But I'd hold most water and fertilizer until early spring if it's indoors. For soil, anything that drains fast should work well. (Bark, gravel, perlite....) There's a ton of info if you search for "gritty mix" or "Al's Gritty Mix." I've never had a succulent go wrong because of gritty mix....and 100% of the time, it'll do much better than regular potting soil. Nice looking plant. Great find and gift! I suppose there is a slim chance that a jade in the garage (which I've never done) will change its stems and leaves to look like that...so I won't say I am 100% sure it's not a jade. One MB is 1000KB ... you have 300,000 KB allowed each month before you hit extra charges. That's enough bandwidth to show one 30KB jpg to 10,000 people. (unless I slipped a decimal place) As long as you take tightly focused pictures, crop and compress them well, keeping them in the With a digital camera, taking pictures at 640x480 resolution (not the megapixels) is plenty for eBay. Make sure you delete the pictures when you are done.

Agree. D. marginata, specifically. *Please* don't use the watering globe thing in either pot, except decoratively. It looks like some of the soil in the PT palm pot is moist, some is dry. That can cause difficulties. Try to water thoroughly, then allow some time to dry. Do your pots have holes in the bottom for excess water to escape? There are many discussion about both plants in house plant forum. The PT palm likes tons of light, some direct sun if possible. The other is happier with a bit less, but never a dark corner.
