How can I make my lawn and garden more interesting?
Comments (23)What is the rose you are planting? Looking at the picture of your main house, I think you could put a rose there too. Two in fact - one by the fence to the right of the stairs, and the other on the left end trained up around the window like you're doing on the shed. I would run your rose questions by the rose forum. They can guide you to the best varieties for the locations and conditions you have. E.g., something that will stay close to the wall, climb 10 feet, be thornless, flexible canes that can be trained as you like, hardy to the zone below yours so there will be cane dieback so you're starting all over each year, reliable repeat blooming (or big one time show), attractive foliage against the color of the wall, a scent that wafts into your window or across the yard or requires putting your nose to the petals, etc etc. The right choice will make a big difference....See MoreHow can I make this homes exterior more appealing?
Comments (21)Landscaping definitely need updating and definition. As it is, everything seems to be nebulously running into everything else. For example, at each side of the entrance area are what look like they are trying to be small tree forms ... but there is no canopy shape or separation from shrubs below. For analyzing the foundation planting, you need pictures that are taken about 50% closer to the house so that things can be seen well. Provide a full panorama taken from a central (in line with door) single camera position. Pan from far left to far right, taking slightly overlapping pictures. Include background space that is beyond the ends of the house. No way would I change the stone to wood as in your inspiration picture. It is not a match. Is the stone in bad shape? I don't see the problem with it....See MoreHow can I make my home's exterior look more mid century modern?
Comments (5)I don't like the dark paint. With your light roof and light stone it looks like someone tied a dark green ribbon around the top of your house. A lighter color would be an improvement. I dislike the planters and would remove them if possible. I would remove the rail if it is not needed for safety. It is probably original but it makes the door seem inaccessible You can buy a full view storm door and paint it and the house door the same color. I love your lamp post. Do you have a porch light? I made an amateurish image of a lighter house with no planters. Do you think the stone is original?...See MoreHow can I make my bedroom more upscale?
Comments (17)I'd like it classic but add more color. I don't like the jungalow style because it feels like a lot of "stuff" everywhere but I do wish my room was as colorful without the feeling of "clutter". I'm expected to work from home until at least summer 2021 and so this bedroom has to be a space to fall asleep in and get a lot of work done. The rest of the house is repainted Agreeable Grey, but I hadn't gotten around to painting this room yet. I' 'm thinking I could either paint it the same color and add color via art, or paint the room a bold color like deep dark green, but I'm unsure if that's a good color given how much warm direct sunlight this room gets... I'm still looking for bedside wall scones and I don't like that many of the options that catch my eye have bulbs that aren't completely veiled by a shade (I don't like the idea of direct light from a bulb while I'm lying in bed). I also have seen some photos of bedside lights are installed directly on the ceiling and drop down like pendants and those look very nice, but I'm unsure if my room is too small for a visual element like that....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
