I'll start although I'm not the best at color choice and have never lived where xeriscaping is practical.

Love your house, it's tidy, straightforward, charming. Because you're in a hot climate (I assume) keep the roof white and keep the brick its current pleasant, light color blend. The wood near the window is jarring because it looks raw, so I'd paint or stain it a medium to light gray, a shade that matches with your bricks/mortar. I like bright colored front doors, so I'd choose a blue, red, or yellow shade that you like and paint just the door. If you like, use that color again in chair cushions, flowerpots, etc. Keep the trim white, keep security door black, and for now keep the rest of your wood siding stained as it is.

Then I'd live with it for a year, taking time to decide if you need any shade, if you want to open up the porch or enclose it further, how you'll use the side and back yard, etc.

I hope you get more responses, especially from someone who can mock up a front yard planting scheme :-)

I might start with the landscaping remove the bars from both the door and the window lean toward a MCM door and this is great landscaping for ease of uokeep and would work well where you live .A nice garage door that works with the new front doo and then if you want the wood make sure it is all the same wood for the new front door the garage door and all the wood there now. Or go the drk gray like in this pic and the door and garage door would also work.

I like the wood by the door, not so much the yellowish siding. If you like tge darker wood, paint the yellow stuff to match. Getting your garage door the same color would be good.

If you want color, I'd go with a warm moss green or slatey blue, depending on whether warmer or cooler tones look better with your brick. I'd have the door pop.

I'm not good on xeriscaping. You've got a good set of plants now. I'm not keen on pruned, unnatural shapes like the shrubs next to your garage. Nor on the red gravel. I'd put a taller tree/shrub in front of the brick wall to the left. First, figure out what's there, how tall it will grow and if not much taller, plan to transplant it.

My take is you just need more plants. Look at what works for your neighbors, local parks and botanical gardens.

I would add a window to match the window on the left of the side of your house that will balance the front of the house nicely.

Thank you @nickel_kg for pointing out some positive points regarding the look of the house. When I look at it I have more of a negative perspective, so thank you. I love the idea of painting the door a bright color.

@threers I looked up the typical cost of adding a window to a brick wall. It could be feasible, but since I want to update the kitchen, master bathroom, and closet it may be lower on the list of priorities, thank you for the suggestion!
