fridge and/or freezer drawers combinations - do they work well?
Comments (5)If you want 24", look at Perlick. I've had mine (fridge version) for 3-1/2 years and would do them again in a heartbeat. Ours hold milk, juice, yogurt and other beverages right behind the kitchen table (built into a hutch). Because we were keeping milk there and the unit would be opened lot every day, we needed something that both kept a chill well and recovered after opening well. Our milk stays fresher in the drawers than it did in our previous large fridge. When I was looking, I felt SZ and Perlick looked the best, but at least at that time Perlick had better energy features. There is also the size difference and 24" worked best for us because of the limited space for that hutch....See MoreKitchenaid Freezer Drawer - Have you had this problem?
Comments (0)We just installed our new kitchen aid fridge with a bottom freezer drawer (model KBRS20EVMS4) and after day one, the drawer comes out a bit more on the left side when you pull anywhere on the handle slightly to the left of center. It is almost like it jumps some gears on the track. It makes a loud noise (ice being rattled?) and the door is on an angle when you look at it from the top, but it closes fine. The fridge is in the corner with a left handle, so when you are coming from the kitchen (or if you are 4 years old) you are likely to pull if off center. I purchased it through Sears and had the repair guy out and he said it has seen this before and their is nothing he can do - ack - because it "still works fine." I am concerned that over time there will be wear to the gears (plastic) or they may even break and I will be stuck with a non-functioning freezer drawer. He said he had never seen that... hum. I wanted to know if anyone with KA bottom freezers have had this problem, know about this problem, know if their is a remedy, or is in the know about this "feature." I plan on calling KA tomorrow, but I figured I would go to the real source (GWers :) Cross-post on kitchens...Thanks...See MoreBottom Freezers...Do You Have a 2nd Fridge or Freezer?
Comments (28)"I don't understand the french door thing. Why have to open two doors? It has an application in kitchens with small aisles, I guess, but I dunno - I'd rather have the aisle spaced correctly. The ones with the big trays across the bottom are the worst to me." LOL - side by side fridges are basically French Door fridges - it's just the freezer is one side and the fridge is another - get an old school fridge with the freezer on top or bottom with one door the entire width of the fridge and I don't care how big your kitchen is, you will be desiring side by side or french door for the half-width doors. Also, if you prefer a side by side, why would you have to open both doors on a french door fridge? Your already used to accessing the fridge through a narrow door anyway :o) The side by side fridge I have came with my house - otherwise I would never own one. You can't put in odd-ball sized stuff, and normal stuff doesn't even fit well. It has allot less drawer space than the Samsung freezer on the bottom I had in my town house, and my Samsung was the smaller 18 cubic foot and my side by side is 25.5! To me, a side by side is like a 1500 square foot two story house vs. a 1500 square foot ranch. Theoretically they are the same square footage, but in the two story you loose space to stairs and hallways - not nearly as much actual usual space. I too have an extra chest freezer, but as others stated I would have one anyway. I have a foodsaver and I'm not afraid to use it. I buy things in bulk, on sale, and freeze them routinely. I wish I could find a fridge with a single height freezer drawer for quick access to the stuff I use regularly and the rest dedicated to fridge space. That would be ideal. Indeed, if I ever remodel my kitchen I'm seriously considering putting a fridge only in where my side by side is and a single freezer drawer (if they make such a thing? Surely someone does) in my island. I'd gladly sacrifice a little cabinet space for some more fridge space. I guess if you don't cook at home often, or eat that many fresh fruits or vegetables it's less important, but I never seem to have enough fridge space....See MoreDo you have a Freezer drawer? Ice Maker?
Comments (1)We have a SubZero undercounter drawers unit, where the top drawer is the refrigerated section & the bottom drawer is the freezer section. We ordered it with the icemaker & it does eject ice into a bin that you can scoop from. We've had the unit 2 years & have been happy with it. It had a service issue after 6 months: the bell that signals an open drawer stopped working & the temperature display went out. SZ fixed both promptly under warranty. The unit we have is 27" wide, which is wider than most....See MoreHU-727078151
