How do I cover this hole in bathroom ceiling? Pic included
Comments (8)Oh the fabulousness of what I call schoolhouse paperboard ceilings!!! They were all over my first floor in one form or another thanks to a previous home owner who thought lowering the ceilings would save on heating bills (I'm blaming the infamous Mr.G!) - I've torn out the ones in the Living Room, Dining Room and Library - still have them in the back of the house - kitchen and back entry in a larger format, and my office ceiling looks just like yours. If you have to just patch, look in a closet to see if there's a piece you can cut to patch - but tearing them out and replacing them with drywall is so satisfying! If you can't patch in a tile, your solutions are to cover it, or just fill it with drywall compound similar to patching a hole in drywall - it's not pretty, so it gives you motivation to do it right and tear it out! ;-) Next up for removal in my house is the kitchen/back entry - which also gives us access the very scary wiring between the paperboard ceilings and the original plaster ones 18inches above. That Mr.G - he was a genius at wiring! Just look at the photo of the live wire cutting the corner over the bathtub of our 1950s Bathroom From Hell for proof of that! (First photo in Starting From Dirt thread) Old houses, gotta love them or burn them down! ;-) Always ;-) Hunzi Keeper of the Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Renovations...See MoreQuestion about shower niche for subway tiled bathroom

Comments (4)papermotif- If the accessories were installed properly in the first place, there is wood blocking in the locations where the accessory screws go into the wall, and no anchors. If there are plastic anchors, you might consider replacing the old ones if they are at all loose (remove them with a needle nose pliers). If molly bolts were used, you will have a different issue, which I won't describe unless you post back that that is what you are dealing with....See MoreBathroom Tile Maintenance
Comments (5)A large tile with a good Cof will be just as slip resist and as a small tile with lots of grout now a days, but a small tile to work with proper slope shower floor is recommended. I have a grout shower floor that is looks as clean as when it was installed. It has epoxy grout and I squeegee walls, glass and floor quickly after use and leave a proper size fan on for half an hour. This said , I wish I bought a pan for less install error is common and than no future water issues likely. But even with a pan I would still squeegee after use to avoid water spots. An extra thirty seconds per shower saves hours monthly. I have almost 100 year old beehive tile in my house. I use a lithium cordless on all floors daily and hand clean with soapy water weakly they look great. They would have Ben originally installed with a mud job so dark grey grout. Darker grout is a must on floors I feel....See MoreSharon Fullen
