Lol, FOAS! yes, we are on the same page for C1. See ya’ later, alligator!

I suppose the good thing about insomnia is that you have plenty of time to think about these things….its 2:00am here and I just got C1, thanks to roxsol’s hints! So the good news is, I think I’m done now - the bad news is, I cant figure out how that’s on the same page as FOAS’ hint??? I know I should leave well enough alone, but…. 😃

I've not got c1 or c2 yet...still working on it. Especially since the NYT puzzle site is down this am! Grrrr!

  • Annie Deighnaugh

I've got something for C2 now...but c1 still eluding me.

  • lettersatoz

@Annie Deighnaugh -- Congrats on getting C2. As to C1, sorry, I have to go now, but I will leave you with this hint.....

  • foodonastump

I’ve got multiple earworms from the C1 hints but no answers.

Ooh and I suddenly got C2 to a place that I really like it! Previous answers were just ok.

  • bpath

Well, roxsol has hit me over the head with that hint theme for C1, but it’s not getting through my hard head. Espeically when foas first has a hint, then isn’t sure. You all are really messing with my head!

  • User

bpath, I had to dig really deep into FOAS’s hint for C1 for it to connect with what I think is the answer.

  • User

I think C2 when it comes to you, you’ll just know it’s right.

  • Annie Deighnaugh

OH ok! Got it! Duh!!! Aren't they always a "duh" when you finally get them!

  • foodonastump

“bpath, I had to dig really deep into FOAS’s hint for C1 for it to connect with what I think is the answer.”

Well if your hints are leading anywhere mine did, I’m nowhere close to seeing a connection.

  • User

FOAS, I’ll explain my thought process when Jasdip posts the answers. At first, I thought we were miles apart on our answers. Then I picked up something in your ”something you roll” and saw a connection. It was a stretch, however.

    Ciao!

    bpath, sorry about your head🤕

Here’s some music to relax with,

GET ME AN ICE PACK! I'm working on it, roxsol. I think I'm going to put it aside for an hour or so and come back, let the answer hit me right between the eyes, then apply more ice.

  • OutsidePlaying

I must be dense because I am still not getting C1 or the bonus. Will have to study the C1 clues some more. I’m sure it will be a duh moment as Annie says.

  • bpath

Okay, roxsol, how about another hint, this one a little different that the ”goodbyes”.

  • Rusty

How about a sorrowful goodbye from Shakespeare?

    Rusty

  • Rusty

Or think about the many definitions for the spaces in the words in C1.

Either way is good with me. Are we missing any regulars?

  • bpath

Well, I guess I got it with that last thump on the head, but it wasn't the grand Aha I always wait for. And besides that, I don't like it. Not one bit. So there.

I think all those clues put me in a grumpy mood!

  • User

bpath, remember we mark our own papers here. 🙂

While we’re waiting here’s a song that always puts me in a good mood.

Could that song be annoying a little further away? I love you, you know I do (especially your clues, roxsol), but that song!

Apropos of nothing. The best cover of Jolene ever.

HINT ALERT HINT ALERT my answer for C1 has to do with something smaller than something you roll.

    FOAS. What was your guess?

I studied your comment for a while and thought maybe something you roll is a pair of dice, something smaller would be a die. Die is dead. Final words can be parting words. I felt you had it. Lol, I spend too much time on this stuff.

    Fun as always, thanks Jasdip😃

eta I had going above and beyond the call of duty for B3

Still thinking about something you roll🤔 🚬

    Joint?

Disjointed words? Disjointed sentences? Disjointed writing?

Winding down after a BIG day. (Looked big not long to me.)

Going ABOVE AND beyond the call of duty. (Come on it had to be raised for a reason.)

BIG things come in small packages. (Is the expression ”great”? Ok!)

Roxol, you started off on the right track. Smaller than dice is mince. Mince words. Obviously parting is better.

    Thanks Jasdip!

  • foodonastump

I take it back. Google ”come in small packages quote” and look what pops up. Majority ”good”, a few ”big” mixed in. Just one ”great” on the first few pages. I adjust my grade to award myself full credit!

  • blfenton

It took me forever to get C1 but I got them all - even the bonus.

    Thanks Jasdip.

With a few small quibbles I got them all. I should mention help as well

Yall crack me up with the hints here.

  • lettersatoz

Mince smaller than dice!!!! Wow, FOAS I spent more time trying to analyze that hint than any of the puzzle answers - ha! I was sure something you roll meant dice, but then I never made the leap to THAT kind of dice, but anyway decided that you were thinking of the wrong answer….until roxsol (who I thought had the right answer) understood it, then I was really confused! 😄

I also had above and beyond the call of duty, and big things come in small packages, both of which I’m giving myself credit for. Everything else ✅

Give yourselves full marks if you said Good things, vs Great things. Definitely semantics, and something not normally heard here. No idea where the puzzles originate. We've come across phrases in these before that we aren't familiar with.

  • Rusty

I had 'winding down at the end of the day'.

Also had 'Going above and beyond the call of duty'.

And while I had D3 right, it just doesn't sound right to me, we've always said 'Good things come in small packages'.

Sometimes some of the hints are harder to figure out than the puzzle! (Grin)

Yes. I've always known the phrase to be 'good things come in small packages', not 'great things' - and 'going above and beyond' is what I know too.
