Comments (6)Glenda, from another site I read, this woman has reservations for a cruise next January and she said this the other day: I've been reading a message board called www.cruisecritic.com, which has everything and more you'd need to know about cruising. On that board I found out about a sweet little piece of software called Cruise Shark, which you can download for free and install on your computer. You enter the cruise you're taking and the price you're paying, and it constantly checks for price reductions on your cruise (or "price drops" in cruiser lingo). Lo and behold, last night I logged on to my laptop and it said "Congratulations! There is a price drop!" I called Royal Caribbean and said "I understand the price of my cruise has gone down and I'd like you to adjust my fare," and they said "We'll be happy to do that," and we ended up saving FIVE HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS...See MorePassport vs. Enhanced DL

Can you point to a news article that says they are "making allowances" for those who have not complied with the final phase of the WHTI yet? People have known for years that this was coming into effect and have had plenty of time to go about getting their passport, passport card or EDL, or whatever other document that can also be used (Military ID, Tribal Enhanced ID, Sentri, ect.). June 1, 2009 was the final deadline. I would be curious to know for a fact, that the border guards were going against the law. --------------- The following summarizes information that appeared in the recent past on the Department of Homeland SecurityÂs website proclaiming the new rules for land and sea travel and has been copied from their website verbatim: * CURRENTLY: All U.S. citizens must show proof of identity and proof of U.S. citizenship when entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the countries of the Caribbean by land or sea. Acceptable documents include: U.S. Passport Book, U.S. Passport Card, or other document approved by the Department of Homeland Security. U.S. citizens who do not have a single document verifying identity and citizenship must present both an identification and citizenship document; for example, a driverÂs license and a copy of a birth certificate or naturalization certificate. * LATER: On June 1, 2009, the U.S. government will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI. The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card, or other travel document approved by the Department of Homeland Security. http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html Right here on the PDF printout brochure linked here below from Customs and Border Patrol is shows photos of the accepted ID for all travelers coming into the US. It clearly notes that the two document option is only valid until June 1, 2009. http://www.cbp.gov/linkhandler/cgov/travel/vacation/ready_set_go/sea_travel/faqs/doc_reqs_poster.ctt/doc_reqs_poster.pdf These are GOVERNMENT WEBSITES that I am linking to, not some kid's blog. This is the official word on the matter. Here is a link that might be useful: June 1, 2009 Deadline...See More~Our Passports Have Arrived!!!
Comments (21)Hi Lori, most cruise ships have computer rooms with perhaps a dozen computers where they might schedule classes plus they will have another area that has maybe 5 or 6 computers if people wish to purchase internet minutes to check email. If you take a media stick, they will let you transfer your pics on their equipment usually free of charge. They do have cd's available for purchase & you can put your pics on those too but they charge something like $5 each. You could carry a few blank cd's & transfer your pics too. The passport pouch is a good idea but on the cruiseline we travelled with, they suggested we just carry photocopies of the identification pages on the passport when we went ashore in the various ports. The passports themselves and other important valuables were locked in the room safe. We had no problems. I think that you'll find that you would be required to remove your passport from the pouch yourself and hand it to the Customs/Immigration Agent by itself. When I was a newbie traveller, I purchased a pouch that goes around your waist inside your clothes. It held money, passport, traveller's cheques, etc. I used it the first year we went away & dropped it like a hot potato. Now I have the wallet that I use. It is easier for me but I usually travel alone (hubby stays home, I go with my sister). If you have kids that are going with you & you carry all their ID, you'll have to hunt around for a suitable method of carrying them. I'm sure you will enjoy Princess Cruise Line. My brother & his wife have 28 or 29 cruises under their belt with Princess so the perks are VERY good for them right now. My sister & I usually travel on Celebrity...not much for perks but we love the luxury. Have fun on your vacation!!...See MoreA guarantor has to have a passport
Comments (19)gardengal, I mentioned it to point out that as a percentage, far fewer Americans leave their home country for travel than do citizens of other countries. I think it's part of why we're so uninformed about the rest of the world, culturally and politically. It contributes to a phenomenon that most foreigners find shocking, how often Americans refer to their country as the "best in the world". Pretty funny coming from a group who doesn't know much about the rest of the world. It seems like most states expect to be able to meet TSA standards for their IDs. If for domestic air travel, passports will be required for residents of some states who don't, it won't change the fact that most Americans have never left the US....See Moremtnrdredux_gw
