Handlesets for double doors - which brand?
Comments (9)Don't apologize someone2010 -- this is new to me, and while I've tried to familiarize myself with the jargon, I don't want to give anybody the impression that I know what I'm doing! It never hurts for me to double-check. The Baldwin Lexington handleset I'm considering is available with a 2 1/2" backset, which mine is. It also fits my 1 3/4" thick doors. The only thing about my existing doors which limits my handleset choices is the diameter of the holes. Because we use the front door primarily, I do want good quality hardware. The Weslock is attractive enough and certainly less expensive, but you indicate that Baldwin is better. I don't mind paying more and going through the hassle of enlarging the diameter of the holes, if I wind up with trouble-free hardware. I've posted on the woodworking forum about enlarging the holes, and they've given me good advice. I think I can do it myself. There are pitfalls, however. I could wind up with correctly-sized cross bores, but non-standard backsets -- I think I said that right! Thanks!...See MoreEntry door..open facing closet or not?
Comments (5)I agree with Lisa G and my house is laid out the same way. Open the door (right in-swing) and the closet is on the left with french doors. Allows you to put the coats away while guests are coming in the door. I couldn't do it the opposite regardless because my kitchen is behind the wall on the right, but I did consider a left in-swing door until I realized this. Didn't make sense to have to close the door before being able to open the closet. The aesthetics of your closet doors can go a long way in making it look nice. We went with 5 panel equal shaker doors in the entire house. The front french doors are the same except with frosted glass. I've seen pictures (we are not yet at that stage of our build) and they are very sharp looking....See More42” wide entry door- opens w/ only 1.5”’clearance?

Comments (12)One other option is to put the TV on the wall beside the window. One side of the sectional would go against the wall where your drawings show the TV. That would put your lamps near a wall outlet without snaking a cord across a pathway. Of course all this depends on where the hook-ups are located if you use cable or satellite. One year I added a 12' extension to our satellite cable so I could try a different living room arrangement. I laid the cable on the floor behind the furniture. The table near the window seems to offer the best in terms of pathways and chair space. I also like your repurposed file cabinet. I painted an old metal one and use it to store my yarns and supplies since I like having something to work on while watching Hubby's TV shows....See MoreHU-27822548
