Stainless oven trim filler for shorter new oven?
Comments (5)There are places that fabricate with stainless steel and can do a custom job for you. You can start with posting an inquiry here on the forum to see if anyone can rec a location specific metalsmith. If you go this route, you may want to tell the fabricator which appliance brand you have so they can try and match the stainless steel color and finish....as we all know that there are many variations. Another alternative is putting up a decorative filler, maybe something that will match your backsplash. Good luck! Comments (17)I use my steam oven for almost everything. It is much better at reheating food than a microwave or regular oven. For example, I had some leftover chinese food yesterday - microwaved rice is usually kind of hard. I put everything in the convection steam oven in the plastic and waxed paper takeout containers, set the oven to 220 degrees at 50% steam for 15 minutes - when it comes out, everything tastes great like it is fresh. If you keep the oven temperature below 220 or so, you can use plastic containers or your regular dining plates because they won’t melt - it’s the same temperature as putting them in the dishwasher. I could reheat the same food more quickly (in about 10 min) if I put it in an oven-safe container and turned up the heat. The food stays moist because of the steam. They’re really good for roasting chicken or broiling fish because the outside gets crispy, but the inside doesn’t dry out. Anything that you’d cook in boiling water on the stove can also be cooked in it - pasta, rice, quinoa, oatmeal, etc. You can stick an egg in there and make a hard boiled egg in 6-7 min. You can steam veggies, fish, lobster. and lots of people use it to get a chewy crust on bread. many people get rid of their microwaves when they have a steam oven, but I still like having a microwave for my kids’ food or some frozen meals. My oven has preprogrammed recipes - for example, you can tell it that you want to cook salmon, broccoli, and rice, and have everything ready by 6pm. It will then tell you what time to put everything in so that it is all ready at the same time - the flavors don’t mix in a steam oven so you can cook fish and broccoli in the same oven without a problem. You can also use it for sous vide cooking because it has very low precise temperatures. So basically it can be used as a regular oven without stream, a pure steamer, a sous vide cooker, or a combination for anything that you want to bake/heat but keep moist. The Miele oven that I have has a plumbed water line so I don’t have to refill the tank. I’ve also used it as an extra warming spot when my warming drawer gets full because you can turn the temperature on very low....See MoreReplacing our double oven with single oven with separate microwave
Comments (8)Bosch ovens are quite reliable. I recently remodeled and installed the Bosch Benchmark side opening oven with a Sharp microwave drawer under the oven. I had to upgrade my electrical panel as current Code required that each major appliance be on its own heavy duty circuit and I went from a stove to wall oven, microwave drawer, hood, dishwasher and refrigerator. My remodel required a new electrical panel which was costly but not as expensive as it might have been. As The Cook's Kitchen posted, the actual cost would depend on the distance from the main source as well as difficulty in running new wiring. I live in a high rise and was lucky because I was relatively close to the "source". My next door neighbor was not that lucky since he was too far from the main source and so his new panel required a much more costly installation. My advice is that before you make such a limited choice, you get an electrician to determine what would need to be done and what it would cost. While no one is glad to spend money - especially on inside the walls kinds of things :-) - my kitchen electricity was really substandard and not up to Code as it had been installed in 1965. My old outlets weren't GFCI and I couldn't run the counter microwave at the same time as the toaster :-). I also gain peace of mind as God knows what the electrical connections for the old Caloric electric stove were :-)....See Moredouble wall oven vs microwave convection wall oven
Comments (5)I just removed a 17 yr old KitchenAid oven/microwave combo. The convection oven was great until recently, but the attached microwave died after 2 years. I'd advise to get separate appliances, not attached combo appliances. If one of the attached appliances fails, it's an expensive repair. We've been using countertop microwaves for the last 15 years. I replaced the oven with a GE Twin Flex double oven. I had a shelf built above it & a new outlet installed, and put a new countertop Panasonic mw there. So glad to get the microwave off my counters! . I looked at the small convection/mw speed ovens -- many here love them. But I wasn't sure how much ventilation space we'd have for one. Plus if the Panasonic fizzles out after a couple of years as microwaves are prone to do, it will be easy to plug in a new one. Here's the Twin Flex, two ovens in the space of a single oven. So far, it's been terrific. I'll post a picture of my set up tomorrow, even though the mw isn't trimmed out yet....See Moretvq1
