Seed shopping = tearing my hair out!
Comments (15)Yeah, I know I'm really late, but I've been trying to avoid going to the local nursery to buy my Sungold seedlings because, honestly, I just hate them, lol. I haven't seen a single Sungold at HD or OSH, sadly, although I've been to both places probably 5 times each in the last month or so. The one place I'm almost positive they'll have the seedlings, I'm avoiding like the plague. The people are really rude and nasty, and when I had tomato psyllids last year, they basically told me I was crazy until I had the county extension office confirm it (and even they hadn't heard of anyone this far north having them - lucky me...). I didn't start any of my tomatoes until the end of May last year. Transplants went in and I started seeds at the same time, and the ones I started from seed did eventually catch up, although I'm not sure what they would have done in terms of production had I started earlier. I'll cross my fingers for a long growing season, and I'll order the seeds anyway, but I'll probably end up buying a seedling if I come across one, just so that I don't miss out on the awesomeness that is Sungold....See Moreadvice please on budget bathroom reno
Comments (51)Oh dear. I am feeling so undecided. I put another coat of the Polyshades on last night and it does look nice now -- dark and even. But it definitely is "mahogany" -- deep, dark red. Not the espresso color I had envisioned. But I am now hesitant to start putting on other products and other colors. I'm worried that it will look uneven, or that I will just end up with a mess. Arg -- this is what I get for being impulsive and not doing enough research up front. Anyway, I am heading out to a music festival today, so I am going to take a break from obsessing about stain and see how I feel when I get home. Maybe I will just put the new hardware in and see how I feel about it once the tile is in. The overall impression of the room is more important than the precise shade of stain on the vanity, right? Although -- I suspect that I will have a hard time finding a wall cabinet (for over the vanity) to match this stain color -- I've looked around and there is a lot of "espresso" and white (and still a bit of golden oak). Maybe a "cherry" cabinet would co-ordinate, if not match. Anyway, I need to get my mind off all this for a few hours. Have a good weekend, everyone!...See MoreColor help needed - I'm ready to tear my hair out!
Comments (19)Thanks for your suggestions, everyone. I think you're correct that using a mix of colors and textures will make both of us happy. DH has agreed to a different color island, but doesn't like the look of painted uppers with stained lowers. He says it's "trendy and weird." I don't understand his logic, but whatever. I am so FRUSTRATED because he cares what the kitchen looks like but doesn't offer many suggestions of his own. He says I can do "whatever," but wants veto power over anything he really hates. Which is pretty much anything that strays from what's on our builder's website. I've decided that I can no longer look at photos of any kitchens with white; it makes me sad. I'm looking for inspiration from stained kitchens that I DO like. So, here's what DH & I can agree on: - a wood species with a very subtle grain - DONE - simple cabinet design without a lot of ornamentation - DONE - a medium or dark stain that doesn't have strong red or yellow undertones - getting there - a light, subtle granite that doesn't hog the spotlight - considering Giallo Ornamental, which should meet that need - a wood floor that contrasts with the cabinets - getting there - doing something very geometric with the backsplash - painted island - still undecided. I love the idea in theory, but I need to figure out how to integrate it with the rest of the design. I'd love tips on how to do this. Would it be accurate to say that given all our neutral choices, the backsplash needs to be the star? In case you're wondering, DH is making concessions, too. Our compromise is that I'll concede quite a bit on the kitchen, but I get full reign to do pretty much whatever I like in the bathrooms. Two of the three bathrooms WILL have white cabinets. :)...See MoreTearing My Hair Out Trying to Find Faucet for Sink under Cabs
Comments (9)Linelle - aack, that was something I hadn't considered, that you might have to turn off the water before reverting to regular flow. That would bother me. I wonder how I can find out about whether the Allegro E Gourmet Prep works like that? Sometimes when you call customer service, they haven't a clue. Also, regarding the spray head size/shape, I have some arthritis and thought the bigger head would be easier to handle than the narrow "pro" spout of other faucets. Fori - thanks so much about the height testimonial. That is a relief that my options are a bit more than I thought. Maybe then I should go for the Allegro E Gourmet non-prep version? Its height is 14-3/4", while the Prep version height is 13-5/8". The reach of the non-Prep Allegro is also about an inch farther (10-3/8"). Anglophilia - I truly detest my current Rohl model's lack of a spray, and needing two handles instead of one. So, I am not keeping it for those reasons. Also, it is about 12 years old from what the Previous Owner said. That Rohl would cost $400 today which--while not cheap--isn't high enough to justify taking out upper cabinetry in order to keep it. Have you seen the Dornbrachts and the Waterstones? Now those are very expensive faucets. Nicole - I hadn't seen the Kohler Bellera. It is lovely. I will have to look at the specs....See MoreVerbo
