What kind of rug and curtains for my living room?

What kind of curtain/rug would go with with my couches and wall colour? I am looking to replace the curtain. The couches are dark grey.

3 years agoI would get a rug the wall color. Your curtains now are too skimpy. Make sure the new curtains measure 2 1/2 times the width of the window.

Comments (3)What are the big red scratch-outs? Furniture you aren't keeping? First step is the couch, second is the rug and third is the paint. Paint color should be based on fabrics and textiles (seating and rug) in the room. It can be custom blended, but the furniture is set in stone. When you shop for the rug, it should be 2-4 feet wider than the sofa. Slip it under the front 1/3 of the sofa and have it extend past the ends by 1-2 feet. You can use painter's tape on the floor to figure out the best size for your sofa and room. I'd replace the dining rug too, so the two are coordinated. Comments (28)I would work with the colors from the chair fabric. It and the pillows have some teal or aqua so look for things in those watery colors but darker or brighter. You also can rotate other colors on pillow covers. I switch mine seasonally to brighten our brown leather sofas. With cool greys and teals you could add warmth with accents of yellow or coral. Pick colors that you love. Maybe start with a large colorful canvas for the wall and use colors from it. You could even paint your own abstract. Stack a couple books under your lamps if you need them taller. Buy used books with colorful covers or recover them in paper to match your color scheme. Before investing in big items like rugs and drapes, try a few little colorful items like a throw to see what colors you like. Comments (11)Saxa I don’t think those water fountains goes with our rustic/farm theme. I think they are to contemporary for my taste. Also my three cats would have a field day with them. They love playing in water. Thank you for your suggestion! Much appreciated Daisy and Val as stated in my OP we are going to lower the tv. It is too high as it is. The plan is to remove the mantle and lower it about 5” and then lower the tv. Everyone in our house is in agreement that putting it on the side of the fireplace would be ackward for anyone sitting on the couch in front of the windows. And yes the cable will be put inside the fireplace. We specifically added a wall plug behind the stone. We just haven’t gotten to it yet. @everdebz I didn't even mean for that to be a throw. I just use it as a blanket lol! I found a beautiful rug that has warm tones and some spots of cool since my couches are cool and warms are warm.
