Worm Factory vs. Worm Factory 360
Comments (10)Lets face it if you have a plastic bin like I have [besides my fact. 360] it will sweat. I did a lot of adapting such as cut out the bottoms leaving a 2" lip. I replaced with 1/4" hardware cloth in that way it resembles the worm factory models. I also have wedges under neath so the bottom tray is not sitting flat on a base , it allows more air flow. After some trial and error I now leave the lid on , it has holes in it . But I do keep plenty of shedded paper inside more to deter fruit flies than anything else but I suppose it does serve a multipurpose. This works and worms stay inside as long as I keep a supple of food inside besides the paper/cardboard. The method of feeding that works best for me. Let me back up a step first. [ I save my food scraps in container until I have enough to run thru my hamilton beach big mouth juicer [800 watts] anything less than this is not powerfull enough to do the job when you have scraps like potato peels and cutup banana peels along with fruit peelings. Its usually enough to fill 1.5 gal container saving the pulp and recently started adding some of the juice back in to moisten the mix. ] Now, when I add the food it takes a couple of days for decomposition [teeming with microbes- bacteria] to take place . Worms feed from underneath first but once a mass of worms have moved on top of the fresh food I then start a new stash of food in another portion of the bin , usually opposite corner or side. In this way you can tell when the worms have moved to the new food usually 2 days before the new stash is ready. Sometimes the bacteria is working so well that you can see it before the worms get to it. This has happened before for me but now with so many worms I might not be able to....See MoreWhat are your storage plans for your master closet(s)?
Comments (68)I love seeing your closets!! We have his and hers closets in the master, and I'm not satisfied with them (and we haven't even moved in yet). Our trim carpenter suggested a simple layout for rods and shelves, which looks great. Then I asked for shoe storage like rows of cubbies (meaning get more shoes in less space). He put in a slanted shelf along the baseboard. He was so proud of it, I didn't have the heart to tell him that it wouldn't meet my needs. Now, I'm kicking myself because I'm too wimpy to insist that he rip it out and redo it. Also, the floors have been finished now. I'm to the point where I have to pick my battles. Anyway, our best storage plans for our master are to de-clutter before moving in and to keep as much as possible in our huge cedar closet (for out of season clothing and shoes)....See MoreAmerican Bath Factory airbath vs Victoria and Albert soaker
Comments (14)We have the Victoria + Albert York. It is very deep. I can't imagine it being any deeper or else it would be so hard to get in and out of. At first I really, really wanted the MTI Linda tub, was just in love with that tub plus you could get radiant heat in it along the back where you lean. I sat in it at Ferguson's and it was nice but honestly, it was sooo expensive and it's just crazy to spend $6-7K on a bathtub. I think the lowest I found it without the heat was in the mid $3K range. Still out of reach with all the other stuff to buy, too. That is what led me to the Victoria + Albert York because it looked the most like the MTI Linda. Since I have the York now I never think about the Linda tub anymore except to wonder if the wider tub would feel more roomy. The York is fairly narrow but it's still comfortable. I have the 68 1/2" size. It fits perfectly in the space we removed the deck jacuzzi tub out of just doesn't extend into the room as far, a plus. Good riddance to that thing!!! I love the freestanding tub, makes the bathroom look so much bigger and I have already used it more since May than I used the jacuzzi tub in the previous 13 years! That is a very good price, you can get the tub and the faucets for $2800? That's a good deal. I got the floor mounted faucet that is freestanding, the faucet hangs up like a telephone. Very British looking. With all the component pieces plus the drain I think we paid more like $3200. If you live in Atlanta I believe they ship from somewhere not too far south of Atlanta. The saleslady told us the lava ash that the V+A's are made of help to retain heat. I don't think I would ever have any sort of power feature on a tub again. Just something else to worry about and it's not as heavenly as it seems it would be. For me I love being able to use bath salts and bubble bath to abandon and while they say you can with the air bath I wonder if it's really ok. I never could do that with the whirlpool tub as it was a no no. Happy hunting!...See MorePantry cabinets vs. bifold closet
Comments (15)We inherited a small pantry with bifold doors, and it works great. We have elfa shelving floor to ceiling and total flexibility because of the open space inside. In fact, in the upcoming remodel, we're converting the laundry room to a huge pantry room, with spare fridge and freezer, extra prep space, and wall-to-wall pantry space. I was going to put cabinets along that wall, but decided it made more sense to put 2 sets of double doors and elfa inside, just like our current pantry only much bigger. 10' of floor-to-ceiling pantry/storage shelving that I can close off ... can't wait!!!! One advantage of an open closet rather than cabinets is easy access to floor space. I use 40-lb buckets of grains, and can slide them in and out easily, directly on the floor. No lifting. :-)...See MoreMrs Pete
