Is your range centered on your island?
Comments (16)There are pull out trash cabinets to the right of each sink. We already own the 36" fridge. We changed quite a few things from the architect's drawings. We swapped the mudroom fridge with the closet. We got rid of the sink/ice maker, in the dining room, we still have the wine fridge. But keeping the trash might be a good idea. I might put that back in. The island is all one single level. There are no upper cabinets on the range wall, just open shelves. The reason for possibly moving the range is that we have an extra 6" we don't kow what to do with. There's a 12" lazy susan in the corner. Then 36" large drawers for pots and pans. Then 12" pullout for oils/spices. We don't know what to do with the extra 6". 36" is the maximum for our cabinet company, so we can't make that any bigger. We don't want to change the lazy susan to 18" (besides we don't have an extra 6" on the other side). We can change the 12" oil/spice pullout to 18", but I feel that will be too bulky. I'm thinking of doing two 9" pullouts instead. One for oils and aseparate one for spices. Would that work? Would it look wierd ot have 2 9" pullouts next to each other? I'm hoping to sketches from the kitchen cabinet guy soon and I'll post them. He's just waiting for me to decide on this issue....See MoreCan the kitchen island be off centered ???
Comments (10)If the sink wall is 14'10", there should be plenty of space for the fridge, but the window might need to be adjusted to the right. Either way, I'd put the DW on the left side of the sink, to keep it out of the prep area between the sink and cooktop.. What kind of view do you have from the cooktop wall? Have you considered windows on each side of the hood, to allow more light in the kitchen? To answer the original question I don't think an off-center island would look strange. kelleg, yours is beautiful!...See MoreHow do I light a off centered 7' island?
Comments (22)I agree with Beth and M.E. Light the island with 1 larger or 3 smaller clear or light toned pendants with a metal finish of your choice to match your theme or hardware, or hood, etc. Center it to the island, so that you can illuminate that work/visiting space. It looks like you can pull off 3, because your island looks larger. I am doing the same thing in my farmhouse kitchen right now. I have a very small island though, so will do only one medium sized pendant, and I have no real focal point in the kitchen, so I am going matte black with it, grey cabinets, white quartz countertops, and antique brass hardware. Good luck!...See MoreWorkaround for off-center range hood vent?
Comments (10)If you didn't want to go full-width like Anthony's example, VentAHood and others have duct covers that will let you mount the wall hood then use an off-set attachment and a little angle if needed to get you to that opening, then hide the odd angle/offset. This shows a 12" cover but I'm sure there is larger, and a box of matching custom SS in the size you need is an easy custom order. VAH and others do custom. see example: https://www.ventahood.com/index.php/products/premier-magic-lung/ml-wall-mounted/ml-wm-cs?id=361&model=CWEH9-136...See Moreanj_p
