Blueberry Bushes (keep existing or get new ones)
Comments (7)I got plastic 3 ft. x 15 ft. fencing from Home Depot. Comes in a roll. I cut it to 1 1/2 ft. high stips and anchored it with metal Home Depot things that look like croquet hoops. All it took was 1 1/2 ft. high barrier and rabbits have not bothered my blueberries. I also had luck with wrapping the plastic bird netting around the base of the bushes to keep the rabbits away. I hear aluminum foil also works well....See MoreCan I Keep Existing Wood Floors?
Comments (12)Traditional construction always included wood door saddles between the rooms. They always demanded that every door be fitted close, even the bottoms, so the saddles permitted carpets and draft-reduced door-fitting to coexist. Even the smallest variation in the width of the boards makes "weaving in" of the new wood very difficult. A perpendicular board set in directly under the door (flush, not a saddle) would take care of that, and help disguise the 10 year difference in wood. So would a very dark stain job :) Casey...See Moreconnecting second floor new addition to existing first floor.
Comments (3)I think your terminology is confusing everyone. I think you are talking about how the siding on the upper story will physically and visually connect with the brick on the lower story. Most brick house are now just brick facing, so when they frame the 2nd story you will have the framing attached to and even with the lower floor framing. However, the face of the brick will be "proud" of the framing and sheathing by about 5" or more (tyvek, air space, plus thickness of the brick etc). To make the siding connection you can add z-shaped flashing that nails to the upper floor sheathing, extends out over the brick and extends a short distance down the brick to shed moisture. This example is not the right, but you can see the concept. https://hw.menardc.com/main/items/media/MWSTE001/ProductLarge/zflashing1.jpg Once this is installed, you install the siding on the wall above it just like usual. Another option is to add insulation to the upper wall and make it nearly flush with the brick. Its getting more common to insulate well beyond code, and you can use sheets of closed cell foam on the exterior to make the wall thicker and better insulated. For example adding 3" of foam and another layer of sheathing would get you a wall that is about 3 1/2" thicker. You would have to ensure your windows are ordered with deeper jams, but many folks find the extra-deep window sills attractive, since they look more upscale. Comments (13)M., sorry, this isn't mine. just using some pics to show you examples. the 2nd photo is a red oak, completely sanded and done w/a natural finish. You'd be surprised at how beautiful old wood floors finish up! Call in a professional wood floor refinisher and get some estimates. it won't be an issue to match your existing solid wood flooring. https://www.svbwoodfloors.com/blog/wood-floor-faqs-whats-the-difference-between-a-lace-in-and-a-header/ here's a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDqi5NAnTKk look at this before and after https://adamsfloors.com/installation...See More
