Comments (63)I agree with you Ellendi, when you borrow money, it should be paid back based on the agreement but a lot of lenders have changed the terms of those agreements and made it almost impossible for people to repay making the banks even richer. It's a vicious cycle. Some, not all but some of the scenarios we're seeing today involve a lot of good money conscious people, who had every intention of paying their debts and because of circumstances beyond their control, are now forced to make a choice between housing and feeding their family or paying debt. Which would any of us choose in those circumstances? I personally, feel the banks are responsible for a large part of what's going on economically and they should be willing to help those deserving of it by any means they can, but they're not. Instead they are calling loans due, forging foreclosure documents, making more risky transactions, raising rates on people, charging grossly exorbitant fees and the list goes on, so it's very hard to have much empathy, KWIM? BTW, when I say deserving of it, I mean those who are not spend alcoholics abusing a system. With a shortage of jobs and change in the working climate many qualified people can't find work in their own fields and are taking jobs at whatever pay then can get just to keep afloat. If you live in an area that isn't in decline or working in a field where you see a lot more of these scenarios on a daily basis, it's hard to relate but I do and let me tell you, good, hard working people are finding themselves in situations they never dreamed they'd be in and it happened quick. It's horrible and it's scary. In addition to the above, debt Collectors are obligated to follow certain procedures and will often times have no problem breaking the laws to collect because they're betting the person they're contacting isn't aware of their rights. I suspect that that is the case with the caller in the Dave Ramsey conversation....See MoreOne of the most intriguing stories I've come across! (many pics)
Comments (18)Do you think foul play occurred in the death of Addie? I didn't read your link, so maybe there's more info there. I will have to drive by that house. I'm going down to Madison this week, so it's not that far. DH has a relative, second or third cousin or something like that, who is president of Wells Fargo bank. He lives in a mega-mansion in San Francisco and is apparently a really nice guy. DH's Aunt and Uncle went out there and stayed with him. Small world....See MoreWindow dressing.. How would you dress these 3 bay-like period windows?
Comments (9)Wow...are you sure a question like that doesn't require a site visit? Seriously, if you don't need coverings for practical reasons, don't bother as the room is beautiful. if those are single glazing, you might wish to have roller blinds fitted against the window and hidden by trim work painted to match the window trim. You would lose a few inches at the top but a talented trim carpenter could make them look almost like a part of the window trim. I could see custom made radiator covers that would mimic the wainscoting would turn those obstructions into a desirable feature. For the top use the same profile and dimensions, at the same height, as the window sills. Columns on the ends and probably three panels of approximately same proportions as the existing ones across the front of the radiators would work well. Do some research on radiator cover design as you need to have good air flow coming in from the bottom and exiting at the top and a properly designed cover will actually help, not hinder heat distribution from the radiators. Despite the term, more heat comes from convection than radiation and channeled air flow will increase the heat transferred to the room. Let me know if you need a link to info about radiator cover designs...See MoreMore “across the pond” talk…..the portrait
Comments (46)In Diana's first few years in the public eye, she wore dresses that today we might consider a little too froofy (perhaps inspired by if not Laura Ashley) but then they were a fresh look and really suited her. I did think that wearing the sapphire necklace as a headband was a big fail, though. Kate seems to usually also wear clothes that flatter and suit her, but this dress with ruffles - yeah, dowdy. The queen seems to have settled into dowdiness very early on - Has she even changed her hairstyle since 1952? It has never been very flattering to her....See MoreOlychick
