I'm in no way an expert about this, but I would say the lowest one is the closest to being ready, the other two appear to be at least a day or two behind it.

Do you know when these were pollinated? Someone somewhere on here said 42 days to ripen. I've also read 6-8 weeks depending on whether it's a tet or diploid.

My personal experience so far this year (my first year trying to cross), is that the daylilies I pollinated on 7/31 have come ripe 9/8-9/14. (Tet was on 9/8, and the diploid was on 9/14.) The ones I pollinated on 8/6 and 8/11 have looked much like the ones you've got there, and I'm monitoring them for change. They're tets, so one is late, and the other still has another day before it's six weeks are up.

With the ones I've harvested, one opened one of it's three seed sections before I plucked it (probably because I wasn't watching it carefully because it was a few days early), but the others gave clear indication of drying and/or the start of opening, so I knew they were ready.

The inner seeds are jet black when ripe, but if course that's pretty hard to tell through the pod. I'd say the one starting to turn brown is close; the other two aren't ready.

Make sure to label your seeds when you harvest! I tossed little scraps of paper with the cross information in with the seed sets.

Junior, bag the seed pods so you don't have to worry about them. Square of light fabric or square (or toe) of a nylon stocking. Twist tie. You won't lose a single seed. (if wife's or SO's stockings, ask first)

I leave almost any seed pod until it begins to lose its green color and has slightly begun to crack open. Trying to hurry them and harvesting too early never works.

Bagging works, I got some tiny mesh jewelry drawstring gift bags, from Hobby Lobby I think. Came in a pk of 10, and were clearanced out to 25 cents. I was going to be gone for a week so used then to collect. Worked great. I normally host let them get more mature and gently squeeze the pods. If ready, they will pop open without spilling.

They don't look ripe enough to harvest to me. Usually they are not ready until they start turning brown.

Thank you to everyone for your input. I'll give these a bit more time and look into some kind of bagging method. I do have several other pods on another plant that are green/tinged yellow, but still soft, that are splitting open. I did harvest some of those and inside there were several black pearl like seeds. That's what prompted me to ask about these pods.

Closely knitted net works fine and you wont lose any seed.

What does WM stand for? I do plan on saving seed every year and this might be very useful. Thanks.

Harvested them today and they look pretty good. Only 3 more years to see what they produce. :)

I hope they were ready. The pods still look green but the seeds are dark and look ripe. I would encourage you to use a paper bag or paper envelope to store them. Seeds in plastic often get moldy.

The easiest way we have discovered for protecting the seed from falling is using those little tulle bags made for wedding favors. Just slip the bag over the seed and pull the drawstring. They can be reused after you collect the seeds.
