Update, and David, thanks so much for your reply. I wanted to get a rectangular table, but I thought that would limit the amount of surface space since I only had 60" to place the table. The depth of the area is 28" from the seat to the end of the chaise. You kind of need 12-15" on either side of a table to comfortably get around I would think. There were no tables I could find (that I liked) that narrow to make the rectangle, so I went with the Leister Shaker Cherry Square table. I got it in the heritage stain for the top and the Capri Cream for the bottom so it would go more with the console table our LCD television sits on. I think it will go marvelously well with the other cherry stained stuff we have nearby. I went to a store called Nastasi's in Oaklyn NJ. It was a WONDERFUL experience!!! They are a mom-and-pop store that will really work with you. They had a few Leister cabinets and tables on the floor so I could really see what the quality was. I will shop at this store from now on! Great prices! Originally I was going to go with the Shaker Ash but wasn't too crazy about the stain colors on that wood. They sold me the Shaker Cherry for only $8 more, when the tables at their prices were $50 apart. Nastasi's has appliances as well and very high quality stuff for great prices. I highly recommend this place based on my limited experience. They worked hard to get this small sale and treated me as if I were spending $10,000 instead of $358 (price of that sweet shaker table!) I know you said you did not want to switch rooms; but since you like the look of the sink in the bay (the outside views are awesome), it may be worth exploring. If your DH is like mine, change is hard, but he comes around eventually. Perhaps posting another thread that asks people to weigh in on the two kitchen locations with a mock layout for each might get DH to consider the possibility if he can read what others have to say concerning the positives and negatives of each kitchen location. Many people are remodeling to get a larger kitchen space by eliminating two sit-down eating spaces in their homes. Thus, If you switch the rooms, I do not think you would have to “stage” a formal dining room if the time comes to sell. The larger, well designed kitchen would be a major selling point. Keeping the kitchen in its current location does not gain you a whole lot more space for the kitchen because of the traffic patterns; moving the kitchen to the dining area gains you much more kitchen space. You gain the space for family friendly island seating, and the kitchen does not have to be in a location that “fights” with the traffic patterns of your home. The generous dining space combined with the larger kitchen space would be awesome to entertain in. One negative would be carrying groceries a tad farther but not a whole lot more. ;

Wow, so excited to see such good and varied inputs on my request! Thanks @Flo Mangan - I am now certainly going for a ladder shelf for the corner. I am not sure of moving the desk away from its existing place for precisely the reasons @functionthenlook mentioned - my desk job can sometimes result in 8-9 hours, and I do plenty of video calls throughout the day. So not only is it nice for me to have a view (which BTW Flo is right, it is limited since the windows are a bit above my eye level (photo of the view below)) but it is also pleasant to have light on my face. Further, the remaining space in the room comes in handy when the occasional extra guests stay over and the sofa beds need to be pulled out. Thanks everyone for all the rug options - this weekend is going to be (window) shopping weekend :)
