SubZero FD question (owners?)

At the bottom of the hinging strip between the fridge doors is a ”flipper” that goes into a guide to tuck it against the left door when opened:

My question: Is this a moving part? It doesn’t look to me like it would be. This piece is missing and fhe strip itself is damaged. wondering if I can just caulk or clue it in place since there’s nothing left to screw into:

I’d prefer to buy just the little flipper for ’only’ $81 vs the whole assembly for $670.

I am not sure exactly the whole situation of the problem ( because I don't have a SubZero). I will need a few more detailed pictures.

However, may be you can try this to repair the parts in the first picture, if the problem is the screw :had stripped the threads where it is supposed to go.

1. Use high hardness epoxy such as JB WELD to fill the hole as much as you can.

2. Rub grease on the screw and insert the screw into the epoxy. After the epoxy has set, you can unscrew the screw and re-attach what that screw is supposed to secure.

I'm looking at SZ 48 inch side by side vs. thermador columns vs Miele columns. I'm very sure that I want to spend the money on one of these fridges and all the bids we are getting show the prices to be about the same, give or take 1K. My question is this: aside from the aesthetics of the interior (thermador and Miele both much nicer), what advantage is SZ over the others. I am getting dual compressors in each of those brands since i would be doing columns. I have read the "is sub-zero worth it" post and found it very helpful btw. Is the air filter that worth it in SZ? Do the Thermador and Miele have air filters and keep produce as fresh as SZ owners say theirs is ? The Miele rep didn't tell me about drawer filters but she said the produce stays very fresh in the bins because they are temp/humidity controlled. She didn't give me much detail on that. Thanks!

30" Leibherr owner here, now for 4 years with never a problem. I looked at the SubZero, but didn't like the freezer drawer thing: You have to stand to one side to find anything, and I'm much happier with the Leibherr set-up with several drawers, all of which are lightweight enough to lift out onto the counter to sort out, if necessary! We don't use ice, except very occasionally, so I use the icemaker drawer to store stuff in too. I'm one who much prefers the Leibherr door too, with the 'assist' of the lever pushing the door opening. I've used SubZeros and find my arm aches all the time, opening them, plus I know elderly relatives would have problems with it. I find the Leibherr layout to be excellent, and perhaps as a Brit, I am more used to the interior styling. You can store a gallon of milk in the door (most people don't realise it will fit). At 5'3" I have no problem reaching the top shelf either. And we fit all the Thanksgiving leftovers in there too! - it just takes some creative arranging. I did switch to rectangular storage boxes, instead of round bowls though: it's much more efficient in the freezer, and can even slide comfortably under the wine rack.

Hi jalarse, No ours doesn't look like that. It's model 685/63 the grill looks like that. The controls and readout are inside the refrigerator section between the freezer door and the refrigerator. If that makes any sense. The unit will be 12 yrs old in Dec when the sealed system warranty runs out.. It's a bit disappointing since they are expected to last for 20 yrs and many people report longer. Yes I take the grill off and clean and vacuum the condenser coils. The fan motor runs fine. The tech told me they never fail; so much for that since you'rs apparently failed. I called SZ spoke to customer service. the 40 is an error code the EC is excessive run time. They told me how to reset it so that the error code disappears. If it flashes service again or brings up the error code, they suggested we have it worked on. It is now running quieter and seems fine with the exception the freezer is colder than they say it is supposed to be. They said the freezer should be set at 0 and it is not supposed to run colder. I think it always ran colder but......I never considered that bad for a freezer. This started right before Christmas of 2018 when I had the tech come to the house. So it ran just fine until now. Time will tell how long this will last. In another couple of months I'll be back in Fl. Hard to manage this long distance relaying msgs to my husband. Inga

Will a 36” single door Sub-Zero fit in this space?

Ah! You have a similar challenge to what I had with that protruding wall. Is there a lot of movement / congregating happening in front of that door to the garage? If so, I might actually go for the 30” all-fridge and get separate freezer drawers. Not so much to accommodate the wall space, but to account for “traffic” in the immediate area. I do think you could get away with the 36” classic fridge like what I have (except yours would be a left hinge). It also depends how much space you have for the freezer drawers. The single unit obviously takes up less space! The one semi bummer with the single door configuration is that if you are coming into the kitchen from the door, unloading groceries might be a little more complicated. I imagine now you just put the things on the island and load up the fridge. With a single door left hinge, you would have to put the groceries on the counter to the right of the fridge to avoid walking around the door to tuck the groceries inside the fridge, if that makes sense. I’ve attached a photo of my kitchen before and after so you can see what I was working with! My cabinets are semi custom and just the manufacturers stock white and grey colors (Fabuwood). I saved a lot of money this way - cabinets for the entire kitchen were only a little more than the Subzero!

Bummer. It seems the screw 'housing' completely dissapeared?...meaning it broke off and does not exist?. Not much left to hold an epoxy---even though many strong ones are easily available. I trouble-shoot all my appliances and rarely need service. The only service was a hinge re-call a half dozen yrs ago. They bugged me for months. At their cost but still an annoyance.

Hard to tell from your pics but i always try and find similar owners issues via y-tube, etc.

I have the best dual compressor fridge ever----but any/all interior plastics are garbage. Cracks and drawer issues. At least it operates correctly with long fresh veg storage and proper temps. No crazy freeze zones in the fridge department.

The picture is what’s left of it. Came with the house like that. I can probably make something work if it’s confirmed to be a non-moving part. I’ll start scouting appliance stores if no one here can answer.
